Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adrian Grant. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adrian, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have always been a foodie. I was the fat little kid that stayed in the kitchen. Food was what reminded me of home and smiles. My grandmother mother was an avid baker and my cousin was an amazing cook. I was the one in the family that got both sides. After getting my Culinary Arts degree in 2004, I began working at some the to top hotels here in Charleston SC. After about eight years I decided I needed a change of pace and completely jumped ship and went into Personal Training. My training clients began to ask me to prepare their meals because my meal prep was always flavorful and healthy. I then decided to become my own boss and open up Pro-Eats LLC which is my meal prep and delivery business. As it typically happens in the culinary field, I got into catering, and the whole food truck side of things. That said, I have dubbed myself the “ Renaissance Chef” I literally can do it all , and quite skillfully.
Adrian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When it comes to food, the problem to solve is a quick fix. “ Feed the People”. The answer is not always so easy. I think that is where you begin to use your brain and skill. My clients want to eat healthy and have flavorful food. I got it.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I like to think I have a strong pivot game. With the ups and downs of the industry, you have to always be ready to shift. During the COVID epidemic, while many business were suffering, I began to hit my stride. My business literally grew due to the fact that my meals were dropped off. There was no person to person interaction. I was able to supply healthy meals to those who were doing their best to stay health conscious while stuck at home.
Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses.
Just recently , I became the owner of a local Popsicle and Mobile dessert business. It’s my first, and there are so many things I’m doing differently than when I started from scratch with Pro-Eats. I have learned so much and and fine tuning. I’ll tell you how things are going in about six months. lol.
