We recently connected with Adrian Gamboa and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrian, thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
I think Corporate America makes the mistake of assuming their customer or audience knows what they know, or thinks how they think, about the product or idea they are trying to push forward. This tends to affect creative and overall marketing decisions that end up missing the mark or leaving people with a “huh? I don’t get it” feeling. In other words, I think it’s important to be excited about the product or idea that is being sold when you are on the brand side, but try and assume that the customer knows nothing about it and also doesn’t think it’s as cool as you do and start from there. The rest of the work is figuring out how to communicate a clear message that conveys the same feeling that you have about it in a way that makes sense in the world of the person consuming the content or product.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I became a Designer through music. From my early teens to late twenties, I created and performed music and figured out how to do everything myself from the music production, mixing and mastering, all down to the cover art for each release. I quickly started creating flyers for local artists that I knew within the same spaces I was in. That turned into logo creation, t-shirt designs, etcetera. I was also the Marketing and Design chair for my Fraternity and college. All of this led me to landing my first job as a designer as well as bringing in freelance opportunities working for record labels, well known music artists and other brands. I now specialize in building brands as a Designer and Art Director bringing to life the visual look and feel behind what makes each brand unique.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I just want to be able to create things and help others create things that make the world a cooler/ more dope place to be alive in. Whatever that may be, I want to be a part of it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The feeling of staring at something when it’s finished, especially when you know it’s good, and sit with the feeling of awe and fulfillment after having that metaphorical blank page just a moment earlier. It’s like catching lightning in a bottle.
