We were lucky to catch up with Adonis Dooley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adonis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Being able to be financially stable and do what I love is my life goal.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 23 year old Soul Pop artist. I have been singing since I was a little girl but didn’t pursue a musical career until my second semester in college. I was changing my major and nothing stuck but what I was actually passion about. I received a Recording Industry degree with a concentration in Music Business from the illustrious Middle Tennessee State University. Currently I have performed in Nashville and all surrounding areas, Atlanta, and Clarksville. Starting my musical journey was difficult. I had to learn discipline and confidence. These two took almost 3 years. I struggled with time management and had fears of what other would think of me. I went into a self love journey and was able to build myself up for this type of industry. I have had many amazing people on the way to help me grow as not only and artist but a sophisticated young woman. I got into songwriting 3 years ago and currently have started collaborating. It took me a minute to get use to allowing people in my creative space because its a diary for me. My music comes from real experiences and my life. I don’t sugarcoat or wash down anything. I am able to write for others and sometimes its easier to do so. I have more freedom with my pen because I’m not trying to stay in my brand. Music has opened up many doors and allowed me to be connected to some wonderful people. My journey hasn’t been that long compared to others, but I’m excited to see whats ahead.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Honestly just support. If you know a creative, buy their music, go to their shows, and reshare their content. It’s honestly that simple.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding was finding confidence within myself. I was bullied growing up for my skin color and face structure. I never felt pretty. My so called friends were honestly the worst ones to put me down. I learned that the people around will determine your mindset. I had to let a lot of people go so that I could glow. I’ve been shining ever since I learned my inner and outter beauty.
