We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adita Yrizarry-Lang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adita below.
Hi Adita , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The pandemic brought about an array of challenges for most people, but for me it was the beginning of the best part of my career. Although I toyed with the virtual space, I was now forced to make it work.
During 2022, I was coaching clients, teaching classes, and working as a health coach for Cigna. I needed the security of a job, since I was a single mother newly divorced. The pandemic shut down my division with Cigna, as well as many of my other teaching opportunities, and I was left jobless overnight.
After speaking with several of the HR directors I had been working with, I realized that they were in dire need of virtual programming for their companies and organizations. Immediately, I made the decision to provide anything I could to make their virtual programming seamless. I make-shifted a studio, lighting, and set myself up to provide lectures, movement classes, cooking, and more.
My experience with Cigna, although pretty incredible, also showed me that the insurance industry was more statistic and incentive driven. My participants needed real solutions to easily enhance their health and well-being, something statistics wasn’t helping.
I have been a fitness presenter for over 40 years, being on stage came easy, but providing virtual presentations with the goal of being entertaining, funny, and filled with useful tips, was something I was not accustomed to. When you are accustomed to seeing participants faces and body language, and then you are left with a screen of initials, insecurities kick in.
With the pandemic in full swing, I had no other options for employment, I had to make this work. Most of my life I was given opportunities that already existed, this was the first time I had to create something completely from scratch.
Now, 3-years later, I am offering over 30 topics for lectures, 10 different movement classes, and dozens of recipes for cooking classes. Not to mention, the numerous 4 and 6 week programs that I also offer.
I have always loved what I do, to see people excited about making healthy changes, ignites my energy. This was a huge leap for me and my kids, but I made it worked, I asked the right questions, even if they were out of my comfort zone, and I created something that was well needed. Now multi-national corporations can hire me to service several offices at once, with the confidence that their staff will leave with a newfound knowledge of healthy living and tips that they can easily implement into their day.

Adita , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an author, speaker and holistic lifestyle coach, but honestly being a mother of 2 is my greatest claim to fame!
I love what I do as an entrepreneur and thought leader. I started teaching fitness classes over 40 years ago, when we used vinyl records for music, and had taught classes barefoot on concrete. Since then, I have trained thousands of fitness professional in various modalities of health world-wide.
Throughout my career, I recognized that individuals were struggling to change their bodies and health, they couldn’t seem to figure out the right formula to make a change. With that, I formulated the 4 Pillars of Health – exercise and movement, food and nutrition, sleep and relaxation, and happiness – as a more holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
In 2018 I wrote my first book, SuperPowers, A Busy Woman’s Guide to Health and Happiness – and soon after wrote SuperPowers of the Family Kitchen. All with the intent of sharing the 4 pillars in a way that related to everyone, no matter the age.
I am very passionate about health, and helping others to discover easy ways of making healthy choices without drudgery. I work with individuals and groups alike, all with the goal of creating engaging programming to make this “health things” something easy to do every day!
I have been blessed to speak at various Fortune 500 companies, schools, and private organizations on the benefits of quality foods, longevity, and amazing health.
My mission…encourage individuals to live Inspired. I want to bring out the challenges and offer solutions to make SuperPowers shine and life thrive on healthier than ever!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe that things happen for a reason, challenges come to us as a means of learning lessons, and that growth is the end result for success. My parents were both doctors, their vision for me was medical school with no if-ands-or -buts about it. Instead, in 1986, I chose fitness, and preventative medicine. Defying a military father was so taboo, until…he saw me lecture for a group of fitness instructors about the circulatory system, from there I was given the green light and the motivation to take my career further than simply teaching classes.
I taught at the very first IDEA Fitness Convention in 1988 and soon after broke my back in a car accident. During that time, I had two choices, sulk and wallow in pity or learn everything I could about back strengthening and come out stronger – I chose the latter!
My career has been amazing, I was blessed to travel across the globe teaching other fitness professionals the latest techniques and research. By the time I was in my late 30’s, I was married, I owned a gym, yet I was not fully content in my relationship. This stirred on new health challenges, my pelvic floor took a nosedive, halted my work, career, and forced me to look at my life from a different lense. I had placed my needs and wants on hold for the husband, kids, and traditional living. This was not me, I underwent numerous surgeries, therapies, and more. My knowledge of the pelvic floor and core expanded. Again, my choices, wallow or learn, I chose to learn. These lessons expanded my expertise and provided me with knowledge and techniques to help my clients and followers.
As family life was coming to an end with divorce, I had to recreate myself in a new era of technology. Things were not the same, gaining clients was not the same. Again, I had choices, wallow or learn, I learned, and I learned fast. I learned how to design a website, create graphics and edit my own videos, all with the goal of taking my talents on to the virtual screen.
It’s been a crazy ride, and for as much as I hated the challenges, I can clearly see now, how beneficial they were to me, how they forced me out of my comfort zone, and how each obstacle took me to the next level of success.
Remember, you always have choices, choose the hard the one and you’ll be amazed at the outcome, I promise!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Life has changed drastically withing the last ten years. resumes and CV’s are not as important as true experience and outcomes. People are more interested in how you can help or change them, then they are in the courses you have taken.
This sounds crazy, I know, but we are in an era of social medial, followers, and engagements. I have had to completely change my mind set to reach the kinds of followers and clients that will stay with me for years to come. I have found that providing my followers with useful and easy tips for improving their health, has gained me followers. Some may say that I am giving away all of my knowledge and concepts, but at the end of the day, people still need help, they need the coaching, and they need the accountability.
