We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adin Thiemann a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Adin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?

In life I’ve always strived to just be a good person and that has bled into my company and my work. Whether I’m with a celebrity client or shooting senior pictures, I feel my character and my personality has elevated my business far beyond my art. Throughout my career I have influenced and motivated many to try photography and videography and see what they can make of it. I tell everyone there is no right way in art, everyone has their own unique style and some people will like it some won’t but it doesn’t make it good or bad! I hope to be known for my character in this industry and the impact I made on other photographers and videographers!

Adin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

So unlike most photographers I don’t focus on one type of photography or videography I’ve always been open to trying and learning new things. Whether it’s senior pictures, sports pictures, wedding pictures, entertainment pictures, etc. I’ve tried really everything. People say you limit your profit if you don’t find a niche in this business, but I’d rather that than limit the possibility of trying something new that I love. I started this company myself under my name Adin Thiemann Photography, but it has grown to so much more while based out of Erie, Pennsylvania I’ve now had jobs all over the country. Most recently I co-created a new company, A.H. Photo and Video Co. with one of my best friends Haylie Petyk where we have expanded to brand/business photography and have gotten to work with companies like Nike, Celsius, Bauer, Gatorade, etc. So whether it is either of my companies, we hope to provide a service for whatever type of photography or videography you are looking for!

How’d you meet your business partner?

Like I mentioned my “business partner’s” name is Haylie Petyk. I put that in quotes because I never looked at it as a business partnership it has always just been me having fun and trying new ideas and opportunities with one of my best friends. Whether she’s my second shooter at a concert, my step-in model for a product shoot, or a co-producer on a documentary, we always have so much fun and it never really seems like work. We have had so many cool and different opportunities that have allowed us to experiment with our art, travel, and overall grow our bond and our friendship!

Any fun sales or marketing stories?

Like I mentioned, I have tried a variety of different types of photography. One of my first goals was to shoot a professional concert or comedy show. This is ridiculously hard as you need a large portfolio and the chance of getting noticed to land one of these gigs. I look at this as a marketing story because before I built my portfolio my marketing tactic was showing up to venues hours and hours before a shows doors were even open. I would show up and I would talk to whoever I could to find out who was in charge and just ask for a chance to shoot. Luckily for me every time I attempted this I was successful. My first show I ever shot and attempted this was the comedian Theo Von. I happened to see him outside a venue. I approached him and told him about my business and he let me shoot for him, this opened me up to so many other opportunities. I think it definitely taught me and can be a lesson to others that you just have to put yourself out there in life because you never know what could happen!
