Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adellia Metz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adellia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I have ever taken was starting my own insurance business. For most of my career, I worked for others and relied on the stability of a guaranteed paycheck. The idea of depending solely on myself to build a business, earn the trust of my community, generate the income my family needed, and take on the responsibility of supporting employees was both daunting and intimidating. When the opportunity was first presented to me, I did not rush into it. Instead, I spent six months in prayer, reflection, and asking countless questions before I ultimately made the decision to take the leap.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in a small town called Ovett, Mississippi, where hard work was a way of life. My parents set a strong example—my father worked in the oil field, and my mother was a hospice caregiver. Earlier in my childhood, we lived on a chicken farm, so I learned early that dedication and responsibility are part of everyday life. That work ethic has stayed with me and shaped the person I am today.
I attended high school at South Jones High School and went on to earn my degree from Jones County Junior College. I married my high school sweetheart, and together we’ve raised two wonderful daughters—one of whom is proudly serving our country.
Interestingly, I didn’t originally set out to work in insurance. I studied medical coding and billing in college, but I quickly realized that field wasn’t the right fit. I am a people person, and I’ve always had a deep desire to help others in a way that allows me to connect with them directly, listen to their needs, and walk alongside them to find solutions. Coding and billing didn’t provide that opportunity, but God opened the right door at the right time.
One day, while visiting my local insurance office, I struck up a conversation with the agent, Jim Clark. After hearing about my background, he offered me a job in his agency. For nearly five years, I had the privilege of working with and learning from him and his team. Later, as I searched for health coverage for my own family, I was helped by a HealthMarkets agent, Patrick Hinton. The way he guided me through the process reminded me exactly why I wanted to pursue this path—because helping people with something as important as their health and financial security truly matters.
With prayer and reflection, I made the decision to take a leap of faith and become a licensed Life and Health Insurance Agent. Today, as an Independent Agent, I am able to offer a wide range of products including group and individual health insurance, Medicare, life insurance, dental, vision, hearing, accident, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and cancer plans. Being independent allows me the freedom to focus entirely on my clients’ needs. I can take the time to sit down with each person, review their current coverage, discuss their goals, and ensure they have a plan that truly fits their life.
I also host educational events throughout the year to help individuals and families better understand their options and stay informed about changes in their coverage. For those who prefer a more personal approach, I offer flexible one-on-one appointments to answer questions in depth.
What sets me apart from other agents is that I don’t see people as numbers or policies—I see them as neighbors, friends, and family. My priority is not how many products I can sell, but how well I can serve each client. I want every person I work with to feel cared for, respected, and confident in the choices they’ve made. That’s what makes me most proud: knowing that I’ve built my business on trust, compassion, and genuine service to others.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Growing up in this community gave me a strong foundation, but it was my continued involvement that truly shaped my reputation. From working locally and volunteering as a coach at my children’s elementary school to serving in the children’s and youth programs at my church, I’ve always been actively engaged with those around me. These opportunities allowed me to demonstrate my passion for helping others, which in turn built my reputation as an honest, hardworking professional who is dedicated to serving my community.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I believe the same principles that guide my personal life apply to leading a team: treat others with kindness, go above and beyond in all that you do, always be truthful, remain transparent, and do the right thing—even when it’s difficult. By modeling and instilling these values within my team, we create a culture of trust, integrity, and shared purpose. This not only fosters high morale but also ensures that our clients know we are fully committed to serving their best interests.
