We recently connected with Adelaide Joy and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Adelaide , thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents have always been very supportive of me in my dreams. While they didn’t understand much about the industry when I started. Since Then they have taken the time to learn and the support they have shown me is the reason I am able to continue to continue in this industry. My father never fully understood how modeling and pageantry worked however from when I was little he would tell me he would be my agent when I was older and I knew that meant he was going to support my future ambitions. My mom has always been ready to help me in whatever way I needed. From accompanying me to shoots and shows to helping me figure out my schedule and helping me find good outfits for self styled shoots she has always supported me and without them I wouldn’t have been able to get as far as I have today.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a fashion model and pageant queen. I began in the industry about 2.5 years ago and love it more than I ever expected. I began modeling when I wanted to act but was signed on as a model and actor and fell in love with modeling very quickly and even became the spokesmodel for the magazine I had my first job with called Modello nouvo. One day while backstage at denver fashion week I met a pageant queen and became intrigued as to how she got into pageants and she sent me the contact information for her coach and now I have been training and competing for 9 months. Modeling and pageants are a passion of mine and I will continue to work at it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
In a competitive industry you hear a lot about how you have to keep your Gaurd up and remember that sometimes people are your competitors. When I was starting out that advice sounded to me like you can’t trust anyone in the industry and it was me against the other girls. As I grew more and met more people in the industry I learned that the people I met at these shows and events could be my close friends and we could support each other and now I try to make as many new friends as I can at all my events because while we may be competing against each other we can still form friendships and have a good time.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started with my professional Instagram when I got my first job as a model and then made sure to post frequently. At some points I was posting everyday. I made sure I was tagging everyone involved and following them. Doing this on top of posting reels and stories helped my following go up slowly but surely.
If it helps in the first question I added a period after started in the second second sentence fixed without to me to without them in the last sentence and fixed the spelling of shown in what is the second sentence but when corrected should be the third.
