We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Addison LaBonte a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Addison thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

In 2016, I received a scary health diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Compartment Syndrome which affected the blood flow in my legs during exercise. My doctor gave me two options: get surgery on each leg or quit running. I decided to try a gluten free diet to see if I felt better overall. Much to my surprise, my symptoms immediately disappeared. That’s why I started my online food magazine. Being able to create easy, healthy and delicious gluten free recipes is my passion. I love being able to help others with food allergies create lifelong memories and holiday traditions around food.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Addison and I am the founder of Organically Addison, an online food magazine that specializes in gluten free recipes. After discovering I needed to adopt a gluten free diet, I have become so passionate about creating recipes that the whole family will love. These gluten free recipes are easy, healthy and do not taste any different. Gluten free baking can be challenging, but recipes are tested, re-tested and then taste tested by family and friends. I am proud of creating this online platform that reaches hundreds of thousands of readers per month. More importantly, I am proud of my fearlessness. A few years ago, I had no idea how to build a website or scale a business by myself. Since 2018, I have grown this from a hobby to a 6 figure business.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Consistency is key. That is true for almost everything in life. To grow social media, being consistent and persistent is mandatory. In addition, the ability to stand out and be unique is vital. There are billions of social media accounts out there. What makes yours different? For me, showing up every single day with engaging content has made the difference. Do not let fear hold you back.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

There have been several times throughout my business career that I have had to pivot. Social media trends come and go. Adapting to the current trend is essential. Being able to cater to your audience is also pivotal. There have been several times where I’ve had to take a step back and realize this business is not about me. Without my audience, I don’t have a business. Being able to create content with my audience in mind has made such a difference.
