We were lucky to catch up with Adam The Shinobi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I would say mainly consistency, At a time when I was working at Dollar Tree i remember no matter how tired I was, or how drained I felt from the week, I had to finish a song. Because I knew one day it would pay off and show me that this is what I can do for the rest of my life. I feel like consistency will take you far. You also see personal growth as you keep up with your craft. Overall, with all these things, it’s made it to where I can have a full time living. Because I was able to be consistent. Posting music, using trial and error. I knew if one song didn’t work, just roll with the punches and post another. Because eventually one will stick and once you get that “aha” moment, you’re golden.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a rapper and Producer. I make hip hop music in a sub genre called ‘Phonk’. I have been making music since 2019 and have learned a lot from making a living being an independent artist. I learned to mainly always have fun. Remember it’s about the music, not the money. Even if you make a living off of what you love, do it for you and for the music. Because if you do it for money you realize it’s more of a job and then you’ll be stuck to where it’s no longer fun. Remember to always do it for yourself and for why you did it.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Mainly to make a mark. I want to know that when I die, my music will live on forever. I know that I will no longer exist, but I want to be able to be exist somehow in this world even when I’m dead. I realize music lives on and I feel that is the best way to leave a mark.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Knowing that someone is happy from listening to my music. When someone tells me that they love my music or said it makes their day it makes me incredibly happy. I couldn’t ask for money or anything else because I know someone needed to listen to my music to help them. That’s what keeps me going. All the people who say they love me for what I make, and I’m forever grateful.
