We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adam Stacey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adam below.
Adam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
At the age of 7, my parents fell prey to a door-to-door accordion lesson salesman. This might sound like a scene taken from a Weird Al movie, but this actually happened (supposedly experienced by many others in my hometown). Fortunately, I had an ear for music, which made the sales pitch successful, leading to my parents purchasing the lessons. This strange event marked the starting point of my musical journey. I dove head first into learning various instruments and exploring different music genres throughout my childhood. I continued studying music in school and joined the symphonic band, marching band, drumline, as well as playing in local rock bands. As time passed, the thought of turning this passion into a career began to brew, prompting me to take the leap.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
While I’ve taken on numerous gigs as an accordionist, I primarily consider myself a keyboardist and have contributed to numerous albums with diverse artists such as Estradasphere, Secret Chiefs 3, Igorrr, and many others. This musical path has led me on extensive tours across the US, Canada, and Europe, including a west coast tour alongside Amanda Palmer. In addition to that, I pursued music composition in college, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in film scoring, supplemented by studies in audio post-production. Over time, I’ve accumulated substantial experience in arranging and orchestrating music across a wide spectrum of genres, while continuously refining my skills in audio editing and mixing. Currently, I’m involved in multiple collaboration projects, functioning as both a composer and multi-instrumentalist, with several releases on the horizon.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist has been the incredible opportunities to explore corners of the world I might never have seen otherwise. Working alongside exceptional musicians and composers has been an absolute privilege and being invited to play live or record on their albums has truly been an honor. But nothing quite matches the exhilaration of performing live on stage in front of thousands of enthusiastic people alongside your musical idols.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
One of the biggest challenges for those outside the creative realm is comprehending the risks artists face when they commit to a life filled with uncertainty. Whether you’re a musician, painter, composer, or filmmaker, the gamble for success comes with immense uncertainty. It’s not just the financial risk; it’s the toll it takes on your ego when failure strikes repeatedly.. While having a backup plan isn’t a bad idea, for many artists, it’s tough to even fathom doing anything else. Sometimes, I joke that being a creative individual is a double-edged sword – it’s either immensely fulfilling or feels like an insurmountable curse.
