We were lucky to catch up with Adam Schmidt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My goal when working with clients is always to make sure they are getting the best results for there music. I always strive to go the extra mile in doing so, and also creating a healthy and fun working environment. Composers put so much of there time and effort into creating these beautiful scores, so stress can always be a big factor on the final mix and recordings. I would like to be remembered as someone who does great work, cares about the final product, and fun to work with.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I come from a small town in Southern California called Murrieta. There as a young adult I was playing music in bands and worked as a projectionist. I then branched out to LA where I went to recording school. From there I was lucky enough to get an internship at Hans Zimmer’s studio Remote Control Productions. I worked my way up from there and eventually became an assistant engineer for some of the best engineers in the world. I was very fortunate to learn from those amazing people.
That studio taught me discipline, how to deal with clients, and mainly how to use the tools. It was very stressful for me at that time, but I am glad that I was put in that situation. I feel now that I can go into any recording or mix session and feel confident, and knowing that I can produce good results.
After several year later I branched out on my own and went as a freelance mixing and recording engineer.
I have been fortunate enough now to be traveling all over the word to be able to do what I love
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding experience is seeing the clients reaction on a mix when everything starts to come together. It’s so rewarding to be able to achieve that goal for the composers. Like I said they put so much time and effort into these scores, and when they finally hear the final mix and they are happy, it is just so rewarding for an engineer
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What drives me is being able to do what I love every day. I don’t ever forget that or take it for granted. I feel very fortunate to be able to do this professionally, so I will always strive to continue to be focused and do the best job that I can. I love working with musicians and all my clients
