We were lucky to catch up with Adam Philipp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our “Why”
Most people do not stop to think about why patent attorneys do what we do.
But looking at our clients makes it clear. They have often solved previously unsolvable problems. But are afraid to share their solutions. We remove that fear.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Adam Philipp, the Founder of AEON Law, is a strategic advisor who focuses on innovative solutions for creators, entrepreneurs, and C-suite executives. He advises clients on a wide range of issues, including intellectual property creation and enforcement, as well as tools for business growth in technologies such as computer science, electrical devices, consumer products, artificial intelligence, blockchain, cryptography, and cybersecurity.
Fascinated by the intersection of technology and the law, Adam has been at the forefront of emerging tech for decades. In the 1990s, he was one of the few lawyers actively involved in cryptographic policy discussions, and today, he continues to leverage his longstanding expertise to help clients navigate the ever-evolving landscape of crypto and blockchain.
Adam’s approach is centered on client education. He believes that all of his clients deserve to understand how their IP tools will work for them, and AEON Law’s business model is designed to provide an informative and transparent process with predictable budgets. Additionally, Adam enjoys helping large, established clients avoid conflicts and navigate complex challenges.
Adam’s personal style has been described as “common sense, candid, quirky, and creative.” He is not afraid to take an unconventional approach, as evidenced by his past presentations that have featured custom comic book illustrations and conference rooms named after “Lord of the Rings” locations. This blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and creativity makes Adam the kind of guide you want to have when navigating the complicated world of intellectual property and emerging technologies.
Have you ever had to pivot?
We switched from a general practice startup law firm to only doing intellectual property. This allowed us to also switch from the billable hour model to fix-price packages because we really understood the IP legal service projects.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Daniel Pink’s book Drive really helped me understand how to motivate my highly intelligent workforce. The three motivators—Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose—help keep our team together and motivated.
