We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adam Paul. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adam below.
Adam, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In the 8th grade I went to my first ever school dance. I was pretty shy and would never really put myself out there but that night I danced the whole time and had the best night ever. Mix that with watching the Step Up films and I knew at the time that dancing was all I wanted to do. I practiced all the time and soon I was setting up my phone camera up on books and recording myself so could upload them on Youtube. I would’ve never thought that those first moments would eventually lead me to develop a passion for filmmaking.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After years of filming myself dancing and making vlogs on YouTube, I realized that I had a decent amount of camera equipment. At the time I was working for an entertainment company building stages, and setting up lighting equipment. Shortly after being hired, Covid hit and I was out of a job, bringing in no money and my bills started piling up. I told myself that when everything got back to normal, I wanted to be in a better position. That’s when I realized that maybe instead of recording myself, maybe there was a chance I could make videos for other people. I started producing smaller projects with friends and it grew to being able to work with all types of businesses and brands. I used my knowledge of music, rhythm and love of movies to give the videos I make feel unique and cinematic. Something that the viewers wouldn’t just watch but also feel. I think that’s why people come to me with their vision.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I feel like I’m always changing what I want to do and that’s the exciting thing about this life we live. I think there isn’t a wrong or right path, we just keep opening doors and exploring what’s inside of them. Like I said before when I was younger I knew I wanted to be a dancer. If I never had that, who knows if I would’ve even picked up a camera. Im also a car enthusiast, a musician, and a horrible singer. Even with what I do now there’s no telling what in store for me in the future, so I hope to keep an open mind and always be ready to see what’s on the other side of the new doors waiting for me..
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me it’s looking back on what’s already been done and how far I came. In my creative process., Im so critical of myself. if it wasn’t perfect, I didn’t want to post it or deliver it to the client. I had to seek validation from others, who would often look at me crazy telling me it’s the best thing they’ve seen and why would I ask them. I had to learn to trust what I made. I realized after a while to be confident and now when I look back at content I’ve produced, all the imperfections I see are sometimes what makes them special and unique. We can’t grow if we don’t push ourselves to uncomfortable places. so looking back is something that always pushes me forward.
