We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adam Olsen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adam below.
Alright, Adam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
During the beginning stages of the pandemic in 2020, business owners had two options; adapt to what the changing laws and regulations for what would be an unidentified period of time or slow down/close their business with the hope it would all blow over. The Real Estate market was very unpredictable at that time, and with how my team operated, very social media marketing driven, we were met with two options. The less risky route, cut back significantly on all marketing expenses, work with our current deals and hope the market returns to normal. The other more risky option, the option we went with, double down on our social media marketing campaigns, and really take advantage of the uncertainty of the market. We knew doing this would be risky, as everyone might be nervous, and no new deals would come out of our marketing expenses. However, done right, we could take an even larger portion of the current real estate market. Though, we didn’t know what the outcome would be at that time, it ended up being the right move, as we have doubled our sales the last 2 years in a row through the pandemic.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I feel like I’ve always known I’d enter the business world in some capacity, but I felt drawn towards real estate as an older teenager. I grew up showing cattle and spent extensive amounts of time on various ranches, so I was very familiar with ranching operations, etc. Naturally I was drawn towards farm & ranch real estate, and I worked hard to make sure my clientele reflected that. Of course, you take listings just about anywhere you can get them, but I absolutely love Ag centered real estate. My company, The Adam Olsen Team provide the same services as other real estate teams, although I’d argue my team performs those services at a higher level. What really sets us apart is our social media presence, it’s our bread and butter. The Adam Olsen Team Facebook page is the most visited real estate page in the state of Texas, we reach roughly one million users per month. Essentially, as a seller, nobody will give your property close to the same digital exposure as we will. We also have 112,000 followers on Instagram, another platform that we advertise heavily on. We use our social media influence for more than real estate advertising, though. We give small business owners a platform to get the word out about their products or services via a video interview. We promote these videos on our social media pages the same way we’d promote a listing. As someone from a small town, giving these fantastic businesses a platform makes me proud.
Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
In the summer of 2020 we acquired The Commercial Professionals, a established commercial Real Estate company. Being in the Real Estate industry for over 5 years at that point, I had represented clients in every kind of real estate transaction type. And while we were currently conducting commercial deals under The Adam Olsen Team brand, we knew that in order to take our commercial transactions to the next level we needed to have it branch off into its own business, with its own agents experienced in that field. The acquisition of The Commercial Professionals was presented to me by its previous owner, who had recently decided to leave the field. After looking over the financials, we came to a conclusion that it was a no brainer, exactly what we were looking to expand our brand into. With now running and operating the commercial professionals for well over a year now, it was one of the best business decisions we could have made, nearly doubling the amount of transactions and listings, since we first acquired it.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
In Real Estate, returning clients and referrals are one of the most important things in growing your sphere of influence. We like to consider our past clients as family. Every year, we send out mailers to our clients for different occasions, including Birthdays, Home anniversaries, during Christmas as well as a personal thank you card at the closing of their house. We also, touch base with our current clients multiple times weekly with different members of our team. Our social media page giveaways is another great way we love to give back to our past clients,
