We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adam Milsted a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Way Too Beautiful. That is our professional wiffle ball team. We started back in 2007 in Philadelphia, PA. We didn’t have a team name and said the next song on the radio would
be it. The next song happened to be “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston. The first line of
the song is, “You’re WAY TOO BEAUTIFUL girl.” Since that moment, our team name has
become famous in the wiffle world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Professional wiffle ball… sure, it sounds pretty unbelievable, but here we are. We started our professional team (Way Too Beautiful) back in 2007. Before that, we used to, like many people, just play wiffle ball in a friend’s yard. Well, in 2006 we entered our first pro tournament. Wiffle Up! in Philadelphia. We fell in love. In 2007 we created the Way Too Beautiful franchise, thank you Sean Kingston!
Since then we’ve traveled the country competing in tournaments. From a national champion ship in Vegas to a charity tournament in our home town. We can’t get enough of the sport.
Wiffle ball has been growing and growing ever since.
Our social media platforms are here to help grow our fan base and the sport of wiffle ball.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There are two very rewarding aspects… the first is when we sign up for a charity tournament and get to help raise money to help support that tournaments charity. Most times its a family that has been effected by something and being able to help them is incredibly rewarding.
The other most rewarding aspect is when you show up to a tournament and there are kids there watching the game because they’ve followed the sport on social media and they know who you are. Signing an autograph on a wiffle ball is pretty surreal. Who would’ve thought that would be a thing going into this.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Unfortunately we’re known as the “second best team in the world…”
It’s basically self proclaimed at this point, but we have more 2nd place finishes than 1st places. However, we continue to go out there and battle it out with some of the best in the world.
