We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adam Land. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adam below.
Adam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Happy is an understatement. I worked in corporations for nearly 20 years before deciding to reenter the art world. In 2018 I faced one of the biggest choices in my life. Do I continue down the path I am on, or take a different path? It wasn’t an easy decision to change paths. I had invested a large portion of my life building a work history and valuable skill set. Not to mention the security of a salary. Jump forward and it is one of the best decisions I could have made. I am much happier and healthier being a creative artist. For the past 4 years I have had the pleasure of pursuing my passion in art. It is the hardest job I have ever had, but the most rewarding. Looking back on facing the decision, there would only be one choice.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an intuitive abstract artist living and working in Houston, Texas. Having skills in several different mediums and art forms including painting, sculpture, and ceramics gives me a unique view point in the creation of new works. Painting is a balancing act between opposite ideas – direct observation and instinct, control and spontaneity, even between the literal and the symbolic. Although I am deeply involved with my own private investigation of thought, the real aim is to communicate a uniquely personal message to the viewer.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The road hasn’t always been the smoothest or straightest. Having taken many years away from art, it took time to adjust. While being away, social media has been the biggest addition for me. I have had to learn new apps and work in various platforms that otherwise have been foreign. The best advice I can give is be genuine. Do what feels right for you and your brand.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The rewards for being an artist are numerous. The one that I find atop the list is making my clients/collectors happy. Knowing that a piece of artwork you made is appreciated by another individual is a great feeling. Building a connection with collectors is what this business is all about. Without the personal connections to the work there is a possibility that neither the artist or viewer would share this connection.
