We recently connected with Adam Kudzai Mararirakwenda and have shared our conversation below.
Adam Kudzai , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
During the self-learning process,I was seasoned and taught by different professionals in the industry of arts such as Hillary Indi,Sean Mambwere,Tendai and Daves Guzha and many more.
What could have sped up my learning process was travel more and learn other genres and cultures from other places
The most essential skills that I learnt is how my body can do different things at once but connected(e.g,legs waving while legs are gliding).I also learnt breathing exercises when you are performing
Walking from home to get to session and it was far.
Not getting support from my people
Adam Kudzai , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Adam Kudzai Mararirakwenda is a dancer,choreographer,actor,model and creative.
After my A’Level,I was at crossroads to decide if I want to continue with school or do what I have always wanted.Which is dancing.So during the gap year,was working at beverage wholesale shop where I cracked my knee after I fell from a lorry..I took it as a chance to resign and follow my dream.Which is being a great,well-renowned and successful performing artist..
I offer services such as;
Choreography for stage performances,models,music videos, weddings,flash mobs/performances for corporates and many more
Group and Private dance classes
Model and Actor for brand activations
Creative Direction .
I am proud to be who I am because it’s been always one realisation that is always keeping me going in life.Generally.I am proud of taking this path because i see other people getting inspired with what I do and getting recognition from big names such as Wizkid and Burna Boy
I’m happy that I can share my talents with others and be able to inspire people around me which will be an ongoing thing because I believe that the same light is passing to the other.Whether I see it or not.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was told that it won’t happen in this world by my guardian;
After I shared my dreams and goals,a very close and dear person told me that I wouldn’t do it in this world. I was depressed and shaken to a point that I told my colleagues that if we don’t win a particular competition, I was personally going to hang the boots. We practiced during the day and rehearsed during the night and we came out on 2nd place..
This is one of the scenarios that illustrated how much I really want to be an artist/creative because these were my first days of trying to penetrate the industry
