Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adam Jabari. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adam, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
November 2018 I get a message from someone on Facebook asking me if I’m available to be in a film with an artist. I am a little apprehensive because around this time I don’t have much free time for modeling/acting. But I agree. I arrive to set and this is the first time I ever felt important in this field. They have a makeup artist, hair stylist, stylist and a private area for us to sit in. Then we finally get to meet the artist. It’s Solange Knowles. I couldn’t believe it, I was working on a project with someone of this status. I had so much fun, dancing and acting with everyone. Fast forward to February 2019, the project comes out and the world loved it. At that moment I knew that I wanted to be in this industry/field because of the impact that art can have on anyone.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In 2017 I was visiting my little brother Aaron in Ohio. The video went viral on twitter! https://twitter.com/adamjabarid/status/841768748658917380?s=21&t=SLXsgiW0a_SMOngsLMrcug It was all people were talking about over social media. From that I got reached out to by some photographers and brands and then I began building my portfolio. I would spend most of my weekends or after work trying to get new material to show instagram or agencies. Once I got signed to my first agency I enrolled in classes for acting, posing and commercial acting. I realized that if I wanted to be in this field I would need to work extra hard. It wasn’t until 2017 of August when I finally felt like I made an impact. My Fiancé who was my friend at the time introduced me to a group or creatives in Dallas which helped me get my name out more and pushed me as an artist. Now everyone knows who I am in Dallas.
I think what sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and my versatility. Since my fiancé is a photographer I am constantly looking at the set or looking at every detail to ensure that we have the perfect shot. Since she exclusively shoots on film, we have to get everything correct the first time. In my photo shoots I can play a wide range of characters, from a Afro, to a slick back to a high-school student. I feel like the possibilities are endless. I never want to be known for one thing, I want to be the Lebron of acting. Lebron can shoot, score, pass, defend. That’s how I want to be in the modeling/acting world.
What I am most proud of is my Son. I feel like he is just an extension of me, and he is art. As he is getting older I see how gravitates towards my field and it makes me so proud. He constantly wants his picture taken, he changes his pose every-time he hears a camera snap. I think he has potential to be bigger than me.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission and journey is to give my son a life that I didn’t have. As a kid I saw my parents in situations that I would never want my child to see me in. I often had less than the kids around me. So, I want to continue to be able to give my son the world in all stages of his life. Whenever I am on set, and it’s been a long day he is the person that gets my thru it. I think about how great our life is and how great it will be. I know sometimes I get impatient and I want results right now but everything happens at the right time and I’ve learned to accept that!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing we can do is repost and share others work. It’s free! We constantly share stories about celebrities and memes. Why not have the same approach about local creatives? If we did this I believe we would be able to reach more people with impactful art.
