We recently connected with Adam Gasser and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project we’ve worked on over our 9 years as a group has been our last EP album Growing Pains. This album was the first album that both of us wrote completely together. The album showed a lot of very real aspects of our lives coming from backgrounds where we experienced poverty and loved ones with addictions. During 2018 our oldest daughter was hit with a terrible case of pneumonia that collapsed her lungs and put us in the Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee Wisconsin for two months. As she underwent a series of surgeries we were fortunate enough to able to stay at the Ronald McDonald house. It was at that time, that we wrote the song Growing Wings. The song was the entire basis for our EP album “Growing Pains” with the concept of changing, growing through our struggles and emerging as new, better versions of ourselves.
Adam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As young adults both of really loved writing and enjoyed music. It was a way for us to escape and make sense of the hardships we were going through. As we got older, our lyric writing transitioned into more meaningful messages. With this, we have an overall goal of trying to help listeners. Whether it’s encouraging them, relating to them, or sharing our experiences we hope that each listener takes something from the music that we share. We continually keep our message solid and true to who we are throughout our community involvement. We try to make out a positive impact in others lives as well as our community. We provide a wholesome live music experience that gives a place for the growth of a community and includes those whom might not feel they have a community anywhere else. Earth to Clark is extremely original in our style. The musical elements we bring stem from a combination of all genres and is not something typically heard. We often are able to give listeners a new perspective and appreciation for genres such as hip hop. Out of all the years we would be most proud of our ability to persevere and create a platform for others to connect with like minded individuals. It’s not always easy to choose this career but despite facing the responsibilities of having four children and the loss of our late drummer Mark Atkinson we continue on our journey.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There have been many trying times for us over the years that have almost completely broken us to be honest. At one point in time we were working, raising four children, one us was in college, and we were touring the Midwest on weekends. Somehow, we kept going knowing there was a bigger purpose to what we do. Just this past year in 2022, we lost our drummer, and brother of 9 years very unexpectedly. The grief has been challenging and we considered throwing in the towel but after talking we knew that we had to show strength, resilience ,and perseverance not only for ourselves but for our listeners. We need to stay true to the entity of Earth to Clark by practicing what we preach even in our darkest times. Now a days, it’s not uncommon to use our platform to be able to relate to and inspire others whom are also grieving to keep going by being completely transparent about our own grief process.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part about being a musician is seeing our music make a positive impact on people who need it the most. One of those ways is by helping to co-host our own music festival with our friend and manger Beth Kelly (Vibe High Productions). Vibe High Music Festival is a full experience for our community with local and traveling musicians, artists, crafters, and vendors. We provide a family friendly camping festival with a kiddie village at the center of everything. At kiddie village there are educational workshops and artistic workshops running hourly for hands on fun. This career is also rewarding on a personal level. There’s no greater experience than to have a complete stranger come up to us and tell us that this is their first time hearing us and we provided comfort in a time when they needed healing. This is the most basic form of human connection and is some what of a lost thing in current times, so to be someone who can often experience, it is an honor.
