We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adam Crane a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Since I was young, I have always been interested in cars. As a teenager I would visit the Ferrari and BMW dealerships to look at the new models in the showroom, sit inside, look at the design and functionality, hold the steering wheel, and just enjoy the whole experience. Now looking back at it, my curiosity definitely overruled any intimidation a teenager would feel walking into a luxury dealership. This passion for cars grew and evolved into what is now known as TruCrane Motorsports, that also includes our own product line-TCM.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From modifying my first car at the age of 16, to participating in amateur racing and track days for the last 10 years helped me realize that I had a lot of knowledge regarding what parts customers need and what the current market fails to offer. As a result, we created a company where we carry over 150 mainstream and niche brands on our website, as well as a TCM product line, which all focus on BMWs.
Customization: At TruCrane Motorsports customization and finding solutions is our core principle, with prediction and analysis running through our company’s DNA.
Knowledge and Accessibility: When customers contact us, they speak to an actual person who knows the cars inside and out. In addition, we ship worldwide and perform local car installs and maintenance out of our Northern Virginia location, often working with customers one-on-one to build out exactly what they need.
Customer Service: While more and more companies, tend to shut themselves off from their customers, minimizing their direct contact, we do the opposite. That is why, on our website we have direct phone number, online chat, email, and text messages as options for customers to reach out to us.
We stand by our product line: TruCrane Motorsports’ product line-TCM is designed to offer reliable and cost effective parts, with each one offering a lifetime warranty. With more and more products being made cheaper and cheaper, expecting them to fail so you’ll have to rebuy, we go the opposite way, we guarantee TCM parts for life.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I feel our customer service is what’s accelerating our brand recognition, helping our business grow and evolve, while continuing to build our reputation. As I mentioned earlier, customer service is our focus. We want customers to feel seen and heard.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We sell on our site, TruCrane Motorsports.com and we chose Shopify as our hosting provider.
Using Shopify as a hosting provider provides a lot of internal tools that make it easy to build your website without having to be a web developer. The cons of using Shopify is that a lot of functionality is behind third party paid applications which can add up and can be very costly, very quickly.
