Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adam Carpenter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Adam, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission behind my business life at Carpenter Create is our trademark, “Building For the Generations®.”
The mission was developed out of wanting to help people, obtain the freedom you can only get through wealth, and pass on wealth to my kids and their kids in a tax-efficient way.
Carpenter Create is a vehicle for entrepreneurship and financial investment, and part of what drives me is doing meaningful things for others and for my family.
I’m driven by my macro clarity and micro action.

Adam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a family man from a small town, a left-brain with a creative edge. I used to be a touring musician, but I took the time to slowly become a serial entrepreneur and investor.
I grew up around a family business, and nearly every family member on both sides of the family was a musician. The creative atmosphere in my home was incredible to grow up in and helped spark the creativity inside of me. I was aware and curious.
Years later, I learned this simple truth in adulthood: “You are how you are because of why you are.”
In college, I somehow managed to do that full-time, travel on planes every week, and manage and play with the music group. Sounds insane to me now.
Having no record label or publisher, I naturally learned the ropes of business management, music rights, and finance and tax. But, when I became a student of copyright law, everything clicked.
It’s as if I had absorbed everything “in the air” for so many years, and it finally came together and clicked.
That’s when I founded my parent/holdings company (Carpenter Create) and my first operations company, Watershed Music Group (2011).
We hit the scene during a time in technological history that uniquely positioned us in the marketplace, affording us multiple awards, valuable industry partnerships, and a wealth of relationships.
In 2020, I was hit with health issues that forced me to pivot my business strategy. This also brought about a never-ending sense of strain.
This is when I pivoted and continued the entrepreneurial journey that I began years ago, and becoming an “entrepreneurial investor” is when the Carpenter Create vision solidified.
I’ve now developed a portfolio of companies and partnerships ranging from the more prominent sector of the music and entertainment industry (Pop and R&B), film & TV content licensing, home retail, and more.
I feel so honored and grateful for the achievements made via Watershed Music Group. But, I am most proud of having chosen to press through the most challenging times, ignore the opinions of others, and become a student in areas that caused me to grow and break through in new arenas.
I say that to say this: to live a level 10 life and bring real value to others, you’ve got to view yourself as a level 10 person and then take action.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
There was a 2-year period when I was not with the music group, and I was working for Apple, living in Seattle, WA. I barely had enough money to form an LLC to start my business.
However, I had human capital and relational equity with others. Money isn’t always the issue.
I learned some things while at Apple and built my first system. I immediately had a few clients and quickly started making money.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Absolutely! Business owners need to diversify. My first company was formed with two businesses within it. But, as an entrepreneur, every business and investment serves the purpose of creating multiple revenue streams and reducing tax liability.
Some streams were built by myself, and others were built through partnership with others.
If you’re anything like me and you are excited and believe in yourself, then you have to be careful to not overwhelm yourself and strategic enough to build multiple streams.
So, for me, this happened by writing down a very plain vision, which has enabled me to run.
