We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adam & Carli Caldwell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adam & Carli below.
Adam & Carli , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
We both learned to do what we do at a young age. Adam learned to play the guitar at 5 years old and was taught by his father. He started singing as a teen. He would have liked to spend more time focusing on fundamentals of playing. He spent alot of time learning to play by ear. Carli started singing as a very young girl and her father started working with her around the age of 7. She loved singing in chorus, talent shows and churches growing up. Adam and Carli both would have liked to focus more on how to read music in order to speed up the learning process and challenge themselves in their musical abilities. We think the most essential skill to always have is to “feel the music,” and to lead the song with emotion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a blues/reggae/r&b band. We started out as an acoustic duo playing open mic nights and small bar shows. We then built our band Innocent Sin 8 years ago, and added a bass player and drummer to our team. We play mostly cover songs and have started to include some of our original songs into our sets at shows. We love playing for festivals and events and shocking our audience with our talent. We believe we are a unique and creative band that adds a different flare and style than people are used to hearing and we are often told that the crowd loves this about us.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to perform in front of people and a community and seeing the crowd dancing and singing and vibing along with us. We also think that the most rewarding thing to have been given through our work, is the connections and friendships we have gained throughout our journey.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Show up for your community! Support your local musicians. Pay the cover charge, go to the free concerts and events. Share them on your social media. We’d also like to see more venues advertising for their entertainment and treating their entertainment fairly. Music is an art and our band is our business. Treat our business like you want your business or establishment to be treated.
