We recently connected with Adam Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Adam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I grew up in a Small town in Idaho. I was adopted around 9 years old and came from a rough up bringing, I was blessed to be part of a family that loved and cared for me. I started wrestling when i was a freshman in High school. This sport gave me confidence i could do and accomplish anything with hard work. After high school I left to south Africa to serve a mission for my church for 2 years. on my mission I learned how to speak with people and truly excel in the art of selling. After coming home I decided I wanted to open an Insurance Office, I had very little money but knew if I worked hard dedicated my time to being successful I could make this work. i decided to open up a credit card and use the credit to start an office. 6 month in I had the card maxed out over $75,000 I opened up a few more cards and within the first year was in debt over $150,000. After only 4 years I was able to build a $6.5 million Insurance office and later sold.
It was a massive risk not only for me but my entire family. I have since opened other businesses and have plans to open a Wellness Studio in Las Vegas NV in January of 2025
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a dedicated self disciplined person that simply wont allow failure. With the right relationships and hard work everything is possible.
I am happily married to my amazing wife of 21 years. We have 3 beautiful children.
I get up every morning at 4:45 am and go to my local gym for a 1.5 hour workout. I then spend 15-20 min each day in a traditional sauna. I also run and exercise on a weekly basis. I value my body and health.
After being in the Insurance Industry for the past decade I recently got into the Wellness and Recovery Industry. I am excited to learn all there is in the Wellness Industry by spending time understanding all there is in this field.
Any advice for managing a team?
A large part of my success with any business I have owned and or operated as always been my employees and or staff. I learned early that we are all on the same team and everyone needs to be treated as an equal. I have always referred to my staff and business partners. From my Secretary to my sales and service support. We are all on the same team trying to accomplish the same goals and in the end MAKE MONEY. Not All people are created the same. I was always important for me to find out what motivates each person. Is it Money, Vacation and Time off? is is Food? Regardless I always made sure to get to know each person I managed and by creating that relationship they would excel in everything asked of them.
Can you open up about how you managed the initial funding?
I have been asked question a lot over the years. My initial business was funded with business credit cards with High Interest rates. I don’t recommend this method unless you have a clear business plan that you know wont fail. With me I knew If I failed it would have been my own fault. There are so many options out there now to fund a business. Asking a family member might be a good option for some.
During the first 2 years of my business my wife and kids never saw me. I was working 12 plus hours a day. I sold my truck and purchased a small scooter to get back and forth to work. I made sacrifices that I knew would be essential to success of my business.
