We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adam Boyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
One of the biggest trends coming up is looking at our health and wellness from a holistic standpoint. Most people have their specialty but still understand our mental health and physical health are very much intertwined. I think a lot of people are like me and start out in the industry thinking physical fitness and nutrition are the cornerstones to our health. While that is is true on some level there are just so many more aspects that go into our health. The 4 pillars I use in my program (physical health, mental well being, social health, and purpose) gives my clients a well rounded approach to their health. I want them to see how important sleep, stress management, having purpose, being social, breathe, and mental well being are to our overall health.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve always been active but turned to running as my main source of activity. As an ultra runner it became what I was known for in my circle and at work. When I got on our SWAT team I was tasked with leading workouts despite no real education in the field. This prompted me to become a strength and conditioning coach and take a nutrition certification course. From there it snowballed into multiple other courses and certifications that gave me a wide variety of knowledge and skills which is how I created my program. As of recently I completed a performance breathing certification and enrolled in the WimHof method instructor course. I think adding breathe work and cold water immersion to my program makes my program a little more unique than most. I bought in big time to the breathe and cold water after attending a workshop. It did wonders for my mood, anxiety, sleep, and energy levels. I believe people can make big changes in their life from taking time to breathe and a few cold showers a week. I want my clients to leave my program feeling amazing and to not need me a again. I want to teach them the skills to take control of their own health. I know repeat customers are better for most businesses but in this instance I will feel I’ve failed if you haven’t gained skills to improve your health long term.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I started Soleful Wellness while working full time as a police officer. After leading numerous wellness programs and leading PT for our SWAT team I realized I had a passion for helping those who help others. While my program specializes in frontline workers it is open to anyone. This was a big decision to leave a profession I spent 11 years into to pursue something new which came with uncertainty. The first time a check isn’t deposited in your account every second Friday it becomes real. That was a very scary but amazing moment in my life. I want everyone to follow their dreams. I can tell you first hand it’s worth the leap.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Building resilience is a staple of my program so I hope I can do well on this questions lol. In the beginning, I really struggled to find my audience. I wanted to help everyone which can really spread you thin from the business side. I was really spinning my wheels and trying new things but nothing seemed right. You have to set your ego aside and tell yourself something isn’t working. After multiple failures I went back to how I started and created a program geared towards frontline workers who really took a beating during the pandemic. That is also where I spent the last decade so it’s my way of giving back to the brothers and sisters I’ve worked along side. Though, I’m happy to work with anyone or any organization that needs to make a change in their well being.
