We recently connected with Adam Allport and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
The start of Motorized Moments Co was something that had been in the works before I had even realized it. As a child I was always taking pictures on my phone or iPod while attending car shows, races, and local events but little did I know this would later transpire into a dream and eventually my day to day! A couple years back, while the world seemed to still be in slo motion, I started to attend more car events again and dive back into my love of taking pictures at these events. While doing these pictures, editing, watching educational videos I finally realized that I wanted this to be more than just a hobby but be something that my life was centered on. This was the first step, realizing my dream, but I was far from where I needed to be to start, and this was mostly due to the nerves behind this idea becoming a reality. You always think of the “what ifs” when thinking about starting a business and usually it’s the negatives which holds you back from chasing those dreams. A few months of investing into better gear, a deep dive into photography courses and videos later I finally made the decision to start Motorized Moments Co.

Adam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Adam, I am a 24 year old photographer from Lansing, Michigan! I am the Owner/Operator of Motorized Moments Co and I am living my dream of working in the field that fascinated me so much as a child. The start of this company goes back to me being around the age of nine years old with my dad taking me to some of my first racing events, this sparked a passion that would only increase with age. When I started Motorized Moments Co my first objectives were to network, start my own website/portfolio and work in proving myself in the field of automotive photography. This list took me time and proved to be difficult but worth every second! After being trackside and doing photos for different meets, events, and using every free second I had practicing on my own cars I started to realize the area of of automotive photography I like the most is the motion shots. One of these shots are the pictures that you see of cars racing around a track with the motion blur in the background also known as panning shots. The other shot that is one of my personal favorites is known as a roller. When I am not doing media for a track or doing a one on one shoot with a client I am behind the scenes at an Autoshow, or doing branding shoots for dealerships and small businesses! I quickly realized that my love for photography spread further than just the automotive world and have recently started doing concert photography, portraits, weddings and family pictures with more to come soon!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
This isn’t necessarily a resource that is physical but I wish at a younger age and an earlier spot in my company I would have broken out of my shell and realized the importance of networking. When first starting the business I wasn’t quick to talk to people mostly because I was more of a quiet person. This was something I quickly realized that if I wanted to separate myself from the normal business I would have to change my outlook on that subject. This started at car meets, just making sure to get into more conversations, say hi to more people and make sure to have genuine conversations with as many people as I can. This is something that is one of my favorite parts of my business now is getting to know all of the diverse people with unique backgrounds and stories with the same common goal, to make the best life for ourselves and our family that we can.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best way to gain a trusting clientele is to prove yourself! In no field in the world will you walk into the industry and have an abundance of opportunities, clients, and everything handed to you. You have to be willing to prove yourself through quality work, communication, and an understanding of the goal behind what you do and why you do it.
