We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adaku Ikotun a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Adaku, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I started Adaku Inspires to focus on inspiring individuals into knowing that they have a great destiny and purpose to accomplish in their lives. Adaku helps women discover their true beauty (both inner and outer) and gives them a BOOST in CONFIDENCE to let them know that THEY ARE LOVED.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Adaku Ikotun and I am a motivational/Inspirational Speaker. I’m happily married to my amazing husband Peter and we have three awesome kids together.
I worked for one of the top hospitals in the world but felt the need to come out as I became a mom of three. While being a homemaker for a season, I instilled important values in our children in order for them to get ready for school. Coming back to the workforce after my kids are in school, was challenging but I knew it was necessary.
I am most proud to be a mom and I believe motherhood is an amazing job. I learned a lot along the way that equipped me to be where I am today. Important traits learned included patience, confidence, determination, and focus to accomplish goals and tasks.
What sets me apart from others is my character and authenticity. One of my mentors once told me that my integrity will take me further than I could dream of. I am blessed to say, I’ve witnessed it happen over and over again. Met with a lot of amazing powerful people because we genuinely connected right from the start.
I want the world to know that you can do anything you set your mind to do. You can accomplish anything. Success is attainable if you work hard in achieving those goals you’ve set for yourself. I encourage anyone reading this to go after your dreams. Your setback will be your comeback. Stay focused and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Like Nike says, “Just Do It.” With God, ALL things are possible.
You’ve got this!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Story of how I built my social media is based on authenticity and consistency. I’ve always been the same person from day one and I stayed consistent to my message even when my message wasn’t selling. Advice: Don’t do it because of competition. Do it because it’s your passion even when no one is clapping, you are proud of your work.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had a moment when people wanted me to change my story for what suits them. People who had more followers than me and thought they were better. At that moment, I was naive and was willing to try anything. When I realized it wasn’t working out for me, I went back to the drawing board and had my aha! Moment. I stuck with what was comfortable for me and I saw a massive growth. That’s what got me to where I am today and I’m loving it.
