Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adaeze Nwanonyiri. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adaeze, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a lesson you learned in school that’s stuck with you and has meaningfully impacted your journey?
One of the most important lessons that I learned in college was do not underestimate any human that you come in contact with. There was a student that was an extrovert in my class and everyone viewed her as the underdog. Everyone looked past her as if she was invinsible because she did not fit the demographic. She ended up dropping out of the college because of this and a few years later I saw her on a billboard in Los Angeles promoting her business.
This lesson has stuck with me because I now know not to judge anyone based on their appearance and keeping to themselves.
Everyone has a story to tell.
Adaeze, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I attended design and arts conservatory in New York City and my roommate assigned me the task to decorate our 400 square foot room. I added colors and different designs to ensure that our eyes were aesthetically pleased to ignore the cramped space. My roommate was wowed with the new look and thanks to her word of mouth, all of my fellow school mates would request that I redesign their dorm rooms or apartments. I knew that I was on to something with the multitudes of requests.
The problems that I encountered during those times was the utilization of such tiny space. I also had to get a feel of the individuals’ personality in a matter of minutes to ensure that the colors and hues matched the person.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner, Lenny after attending a network party in Malibu, California. He had recently purchased a restaurant a restaurant in Southern California and brought up the fact that the aesthetics were depressing and uneventful. I filled him in on my background pertaining to offering consultation services and interior decorating in college dorms for my friends and associates while attending college.
An appointment was set up for me to take a look at the restaurant so I could give him the visual nest steps. (also known as consulting). When I came to the restaurant, the demographic was alot different than I expected. It was next to a very well know college in Westwood area but the appearance did not make it “cool” enough for the students to be seen.
Colors, fabrics and food items would be a crucial factor to enticing the college kids. Colors play a pivotal role in the way humans feel and think.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The resources that I wish that I kew earlier about my creative journey is to just trust the process. Do not try to control things that are not going your way. Trust that all things are happening for a reason.
