We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ada LeAnn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ada below.
Ada, appreciate you joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I started performing around my hometown when I was just 14 years old and with this came a load of expectations to put on the type of show that the people in my hometown desired. I began performing country music at all of my shows because my parents and friends loved country. And with that , people DID enjoy my country shows. However as I got older and started exploring my creative abilities in writing my own songs, I found that country really was not what I wanted to be doing. I started performing bedroom pop music at my shows acoustically, as well as my own songs! This unfortunately did lead to less engagement at my shows. Less venues wanted to hire me, and it was discouraging. I started feeling push from my parents and other adults to begin playing country music again because of how well it was received. My parents had the best intentions to help me get back on my feet, but it wasn’t what I wanted, and I pushed back on that idea. I kept writing music that I loved in the pop world and playing music that I loved at my shows. It was a fight and it was difficult to know that I was switching gears into something some people in my hometown didn’t support and didn’t love. Soon enough after rebranding I was offered a job being a cast member on an NBC TV show. I felt so proud that I landed something like national TV by following the path that I desired. From the show I gained so many connections and a fanbase that believes in the type of music I love creating. I now write with major labels, writing POP music.

Ada, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Ada Compton. I got my start in the industry by doing karaoke competitions and small gigs locally when I was 14. Alongside that I also participated in school activities like musicals and plays. Both of these allowed me to grow more comfortable on stage as well as raise eyebrows for me around town. People asking if I could perform at their venue, or what I plan to go on to do with my music. I began as just performing covers to gain attention on my social media and at shows. However, when 2020 hit, I was in high school and on lockdown. Forced to go to school at home and enter classes through zoom. With all of this spare time- I decided I would start to write. I tried to write 1-2 songs a day. I stayed very consistent to that goal racking up around 1000 voice memos on my phone of unfinished songs just that year. From then on I decided that songwriting was something I wanted to dive into head first. I contribute my skills in songwriting now- all to that year. I continued to write as much as possible. In 2021 I received a call that I was being considered for an NBC TV show. “The American Song Contest”. I performed my original song “Natalie” for millions of people LIVE, and made it to the semi-finals. From then I gained a fanbase and have continued to write songs for myself as well as others. I plan to move to Nashville ASAP.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I just truly believe that I wasn’t meant to do anything but music. That’s what’s been driving me. Being so young I have been presented with many different career paths and opportunities to change what I wanted to do, and I haven’t. I can’t envision nor really stand the idea of not having music be at the forefront of my life in the future.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
What was important with building my fanbase was putting out as much content. Different content that could gear towards many different groups. Being a writer, I have been fortunate enough to be able to write several different genres. I post all of these different types of demos and find a lot of people who love different music styles becoming my fans.
