We recently connected with Ada Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Ada, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
It’s important to note that starting a business involves significant risks, including financial uncertainty, long hours and the potential for failure. But my desire to present my craft to the public far outweighed the negatives. Starting Miss Ada Candles has allowed me to pursue my passion. It has allowed me to work on something that I truly care about. The mixing of various fragrances and the crafting of my candles from all natural soy wax, is truly a joy. Being a creative has allowed me to be in control of my product and it’s presentation to the public. From the crafting of the candles, to the logo, marketing and packaging, it’s all me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Ada and I make and sell 100% soy wax candles. I started crafting candles as a hobby and I enjoyed it so much, that I decided to pursue it as a business. I especially enjoy seeing my customers faces after they are introduced to my special blend of fragrances. After 50 years, I am finally using the Chemistry that my high school teachers had to pound into my head. I’m overjoyed that they did.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Well, I’m a Baby Boomer so this is all very new to me. But, I’m an adventurous type, so I am having an absolute blast with social media. I understand the impact that social media can have in helping creatives gain much needed exposure, and I’m all for that.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Crafting candles can be a rewarding and creative endeavor. I was first exposed to the candle making process over 50 years ago, when a group of hippies moved into the neighborhood. Being a very curious teenager, I was drawn to them. Fortunately for me, they took me under their wings, and taught me the technique that I use today. The sensory delights associated with candle making make it a joyous experience for me. The rich scents of the fragrance oils , the beautiful aromas that are produced, are instant mood enhancers The melting of the wax and pouring of my candles is one of the most enjoyable experiences I can think of.
