We recently connected with Acza Marroquin and have shared our conversation below.
Acza, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started my business in 2018, just three months after deciding I wanted to be an artist. At the time, I was in a desperate place in my life. I needed money to support my family and was coming out of an industry I’m not proud of. I felt lost and knew I had to change my life, so I put my faith in God, deciding to let Him steer my path instead of trying to control everything myself. It was a leap of faith, and I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but God guided me through it all—showing me how to navigate this new direction.
If I had started my business earlier, I think I’d be in a completely different place now. I probably wouldn’t have faced the challenges that shaped me into who I am today. While the journey was hard, I see now that every struggle was necessary for my growth. It molded my character and turned me into someone who could be a testimony for others—proving that you can break free from a life you’re not proud of and still make it.
It’s terrifying to think about how you’ll survive when you make such a drastic change, especially when you feel like you have no safety net. But for me, my safety net was God, and the way He has shown up for me—to not believe and have faith would be a slap in the face because He’s never proven to not be there for me. He’s always been there, and I know not everyone has that, so I can only speak for myself and how I navigate through life. But man, I wish everybody could have that because, honestly, what other way is there?
Of course, if I had started sooner, I’d probably be more advanced in my career. But everything happens for a reason. The timing was right, and I trust that my journey unfolded exactly as it was meant to. Take your time and let life come as it’s supposed to—it all works out in the end.

Acza, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, for those who don’t know me, my name is Acza Marroquin, and I’m a muralist and artist. My journey into this industry wasn’t exactly planned out. In 2018, I hit a point in my life where I had to make a decision. I was in a tough spot, financially and personally, and I needed a way to take care of my family. That’s when I decided to lean into my faith, trust God, and step into the world of art. Three months later, I landed my first mural, and that’s when I knew this was my path.
I provide mural services, custom artwork, and creative designs. But really, what I do is bring people’s visions to life on a much bigger scale—whether it’s a wall that needs a new story or a space that needs a new vibe, I’m there to make it happen. What sets me apart is that I work closely with my clients, making sure their ideas come to life in ways they didn’t even think possible. I’ve also started exploring the fusion of traditional art with AI, which is opening up new creative doors for me.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that my work not only transforms spaces but touches people on a personal level. I didn’t just step into this to make pretty pictures—I wanted to inspire others, to show that no matter where you come from or what you’ve been through, you can rise up and create something meaningful.
I want people to know that my art is about more than just paint on a wall. It’s about faith, perseverance, and storytelling. Every mural, every piece, has a deeper message. So when you work with me, you’re not just getting a muralist, you’re getting someone who truly cares about the impact of the work, someone who’s passionate about telling your story through art. And at the end of the day, that’s what I’m here for—to help you see your vision in a way that feels personal and powerful.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Every mural I work on brings its own set of challenges, and I’ve had my fair share of wild experiences. I’ve been stuck on rooftops when my ladder fell, stranded on a lift at night with no way down, and early on, I’d drop paint constantly. I’ve even fallen off ladders and had ladders fall on my head. Each of these moments taught me something valuable.
Over time, I’ve realized that every obstacle is a lesson in disguise. Now, I take a step back and think before I act. I ask myself, “What’s the best approach? What’s the safest, most efficient way to handle this?” I don’t rush anymore. I’ve learned that slowing down doesn’t mean you’re wasting time—it means you’re doing things right. I’m much more mindful of how I work, always thinking things through before jumping in.
Each challenge has shaped me as both an artist and a person. I’ve learned to be patient, efficient, and intentional. I’ve come to understand that the journey itself is just as important as the final product, and every mural, every setback, adds to my growth. And that’s what makes this work so rewarding—it’s constantly teaching me something new.

Any advice for managing a team?
When it comes to managing a team and keeping morale high, it all starts with how you lead. Always let your team know they’re appreciated, that they’re needed, and that everything they do matters—not just to the success of the project, but to you and to them. When you lead with integrity and hold yourself to a high standard, you project that onto your team without even having to say much. They learn by watching you.
It’s like a domino effect. When they see how you handle situations with patience, professionalism, and respect, they take notice and start to mirror that behavior. Your actions set the tone. You don’t always have to spell it out—the way you carry yourself says everything. When your team feels valued and understands how important their role is, they start treating others the same way. It’s all about leading by example and creating an environment where everyone feels respected and motivated to do their best.
