We recently connected with Abrina and have shared our conversation below.
Abrina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Ever since I was a little girl I always loved singing. I would put on plays and shows for family parties and my Grandfather who plays in a mariachi band he would always have me sing with them as well. But I would say the defining moment where it was like I have to give this a real shot was when I was about 16 or 17 and I won a performance contest at Universal city walk outside of Universal Studios LA. I put on a show with two dancers abs sang my but off and ended up winning so after that it showed me that maybe I could do this. I had to put my fears to the side and really just give it a shot.

Abrina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Mexican- American r&b/ latin singer songwriter from San Diego, CA. I started doing shows around San Diego ever since I was 13. I was in Junior theatre at Balboa Park in San Diego where I did a lot of dance and drama training. I later went on to college where after two years into it dropped out and moved to LA to pursue a music career. I know that was a huge risk that I was taking but I felt in my heart I just had to do it for myself. I felt I could always go back to college which I fully planned on doing if it wasn’t so expensive lol. But that’s a different conversation, ever since I moved to LA I have been touring and putting music out. I also have been blessed to be able to write music for big music networks for tv and film. It’s a been a long and windy road with many highs and lows but in the end I don’t regret any of it!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to be able to have complete creative control over my career which I have, so it’s just making sure I maintain a high level of creativity and make real art. Aside from that I just want to be able to tour the World and live comfortably off of just doing music. There’s a lot of people in my family and in the industry that have helped me out a lot so I honestly do it for them as well. I hope one day I can bless them like they have blessed me.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Well we can pay our songwriters more. Streaming platforms like a Spotify pay $.003 per stream, it’s crazy. There’s has been a lot of people finally speaking out about this because of the writer strike in Hollywood. We don’t make much money at all from streaming platforms so it forces the artist to have to tour and sell Merch. We have to invest so much of our own money into our music, content, artwork and marketing. You only can make that money back if u stream millions and millions. I’m finally streaming in the millions with one song and barely made my money back on the song and not much more to profit. It really doesn’t make any sense.
