We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abner Jackson III a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abner, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Try to be different and stay in my lane. I cover a plethora of things and topics on my website. I like to give my audience a variety of things to see. Most people have one niche, I have more than one.
Abner, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I wrote two articles for Ozone Magazine in 2002 when it was located in Orlando, Florida. Shortly after, I registered for the Journalism class at Seminole Community College in 2003. I became a writer for the Scribe there and eventually wrote a few articles for the Orlando Times. Once I relocated to Atlanta, I started writing for Stacks Magazine then I became a writer and Media Correspondent for VEU Magazine. I started the AJ3Report in March of 2018 based on me wanting to start my own website. I had developed many relationships writing throughout the years and have interviewed some of the same people 3 or 4 times. A lot of people are willing to work with me again based on our previous relationships. It’s more joyous having success with something you put your heart into compared to someone else’s. I think 2021 was my brand coming out party and me arriving on the scene. I have been busy all the time since March of last year and elite at what I do,
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being consistent, reliable, developing relationships and trying to support others as much as I can. Atlanta is a small market when it comes to media, you pretty much see a lot of the same people all the time. I am around my peers more than anyone. Everyone always says I’m consistent and have great content. I’m willing to put in the time and work to be successful.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I would say creativity and having a good eye when it comes to photos. I’m creative with content and I know how to create memes that get good traffic. Being able to take good photos is a blessing and I learned how to work my camera with no experience in photography. When someone tells me I’m doing a good job is always rewarding.
