Alright, Abigil thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Every First Friday of the month we hold our Casa Bloom FREE event. We invite our plant-loving community to come and enjoy complimentary refreshments as we gather together and enjoy an evening dedicated to blooming. Many attendants have expressed their deep gratitude for the occasion that gives them an opportunity to meet and socialize with new people in our neighborhood. We are so grateful for the loving support of our customers that we feel privileged to have a safe space that supersedes the dividing boundaries of age, sex, and race.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I fell in love with plants at a young age when I visited my father in Hawaii. The lush greenery was forever etched in my heart and as I grew older caring for house plants gave me a feeling of still being connected to my Hawaiian roots.
After we purchased our home at the start of the pandemic I started to sell my propagated plants out of my garage. As a mother of five young children ages 14,11,7,5,and3, I often felt heartache as I imagined my children growing up. Like who am I if I’m not raising children? Selling plants gave me a good reminder that I am a capable woman with talents and skills. That I’m not just a mom all of the time.
Caring for plants was so rewarding and I was amazed at how these beautiful plants brought each person so much joy during this challenging time that it moved me to want to open up The Pilea Plant Shop.
We offer many services at the Pilea Plant Shop including repotting plants, plant rental, and plant staging. We also offer private parties and team-building workshops. Our public workshop events are most beloved by ourselves and our customers. We love supporting local artists and small businesses by featuring them at our public sip and shop events. We are so fulfilled as we bring the community together to GROW with us.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
This is a great question. I believe it is a mix of high moral values, a genuine love for people, and the need to express myself creatively. I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and being honest in all of my dealings has helped me to forge long-lasting relationships with all of my clients, as well as my suppliers and brand partners. Genuine love for others also helps us to create a welcoming and safe space for others. This type of love has broken down barriers of race, sex, and age and has truly contributed to a peaceful paradise within our brick-and-mortar walls. I have always had a deep love for the arts including, design and performance arts. These passions have helped me to get creative in my marketing in a fun and interactive way that has gained us a growing following.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We are very active in following up with our customers by anticipating their plant care needs. We offer plant care services as well as free plant consultations that help our clients succeed at being plant parents. We also use our emails and social media accounts to teach people about how they benefit from indoor house plants as well as how they can care for their plants as they grow. These helpful tips are evidence that we truly care about our clients and this builds trust between us and it fosters brand loyalty .
