We were lucky to catch up with Abigail Wilson-Kageni recently and have shared our conversation below.
Abigail, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
Creating a more inclusive workplace is crucial for fostering diversity and ensuring a positive work environment! Understanding how to cultivate a cozy work space for all those working amongst you comes from experiencing and growing with your team. Making inclusion a core part of any space’s values can boost the work community at large. You can encourage those around you to share their unique perspectives and actively work towards creating an inclusive atmosphere.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Creative work has always been a part of my family’s history. Being a part of a circle of artisans through my mother’s vast group of friends from all over the world has molded my love for learning and exploring the art world. As I have grown into the scholar of today’s world, I have grown my skills as an artist to meet the demands of my academic and professional settings. Today, I work as a freelancer during my last two years of college.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Creating art allows for me to express my thoughts, emotions, and perspectives in a unique and personal way. It provides a medium for self-discovery and reflection. The process of bringing imagination to life and seeing the tangible results can bring a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Creating something meaningful to oneself can be inherently rewarding.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
In my previous internship positions, a lot of times the difficulties we faced were time difference related. This made working in teams incredibly strenuous. To combat this, we all made it a point to find a time within our own time zones that would work best for our communications and then work on projects in our own time.
