We were lucky to catch up with Abigail Tuano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Abigail , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
6 months ago I took a risk and quit my full time job, pack up my car and move cross country from Miami to LA to pursue photography. It was definitely a hard adjustment to leave everything behind and move forward with my life here in LA. Last year in September I heard God speak to me and told me to move to LA to pursue photography. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to move here because of everything I had at home in Miami but with months of applying and networking I found my place here in LA. I then moved to LA and I’m still getting my footing here with photography but I am excited to continue to network and meet new people to shoot with. I am so happy here 6 months later and I have learned so much from taking this risk and leaving everything behind to grow here in LA.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! My name is Abigail I mostly go by Abbie but I am a freelance photographer, videographer, youtuber and podcaster. How I got into photography is a funny story because I started it when I was a junior in Highschool 11 years ago. I originally wanted to pursue nursing but my dad told me I should join the TV production and when I joined I fell in love with all things tv. I then graduated highschool and wanted to continue making videos so I started my youtube channel to continue the rhythm of creating. Then in 2017 I felt to start my photography and videography business called Life Films and the biggest thing that I love to do is capture special moments so my mission statement turned into Life Films here to capture your special moment. I have been doing photography and videography ever since. I’ve captured weddings, baby showers, proposals, commercials and so much more! I am a huge sucker for love so being able to see people fall in love and get to create a story out of it is my favorite part about taking photos and videos. I then started a podcast in 2023 called Finding Yourself where I talk all about topics a lot of people don’t like to talk about and do interviews. So in general I love everything media!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Some books I recommend is Mind Your Business A Workbook to Grow Your Creative Passion Into a Full-time Gig by Ilana Griffo and Rich Dad Poor Dad Robert T. Kiyosaki.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building on social media isn’t easy but I recommend to keep consistent and enjoy the journey. For those that want to build their social media I would recommend to first find your voice, your branding and then after pick your niche and then be consistent with your uploading schedule. The viewers will come slow and steady will win the race! I started on social media about 12 years ago and just this year I reached 1k on YouTube. It was a lot of building, collaborating and grinding but then when I realized I love to create and created content I love then that’s when the viewers started coming in. So I encourage you to just START! Sometimes we want to be perfect or have everything in order before we start but honestly just begin and get 1% better every single week.
