Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Abigail Rose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Abigail Rose, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Blended Sense operates in the between: an archaically structured film industry and unregulated, self taught videographers and photographers. Our goal is to bring the integrity and professionalism standards that have long stood in the upper echelon of working creatives to the masses of freelancers trying to make a living in this industry by creating better working conditions and practices. Where accessibility lacks, we make it reachable. Where irregularity exists, we are create standardization. We have built a first of its kind platform to introduce technology into a job field that largely has had to DIY their careers, pick up side jobs, or quit their passion all together.
We recognized that business owners needed creative media to be successful, but lacked the time, resources, and know how, to do it. And we saw that creative professionals were missing out on the accounting skills, time, and project management to effectively make a living in media.
Prior to Blended Sense, business owners had limited options to access media content creation: either pay for high priced video and photo production that left their budgets empty and them just as confused as to process as when they started…or fair on their own, navigating the freelancing marketplace, only to discover that its unregulated, lacks standardizations, and ends up taking valuable time away from running their business. Its not the creatives professionals fault that there is so much gate keeping, inconsistency, and variability when it comes to getting started and maintaining a living wage in this industry. Nor is it the business owner’s fault that they now have to become content creators in addition to operating their businesses. We saw it plain and simple: if there was a way for these two groups to connect and work together consistently- they both would thrive.
In our industry relationships are the name of the game. Blended Sense makes it easy for business owners and top talent to start working together, and stay working together – both benefitting from the long term effects of consistency.
Once we had a business owner with a last minute opportunity to speak on stage and an immediate request to have video coverage at that event. In the time it took for him to board the plane and touch down across the country, Blended Sense secured a videographer to attend the event that afternoon and capture the business owner speaking on stage. The relief this business owner felt being able to focus entirely on their upcoming speech, instead of sourcing, managing, and directly paying a random freelancer in a new city was unimaginable and evident in his on stage performance.
The goal is Blended Sense is to eliminate the one off experience of hiring freelancers in media production. We take pride in the relationships matched that have gone on to create for months on end together. The rapport built is evident in the quality and authenticity of the end product. We have had creatives stay matched to their business owners for over two years, continuing to work together month over month! The results: business owners who are thriving in their operations and their creative confidence- and creative professionals who have have a consistent income stream to support their business!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As an actor working professionally for over 10 years, I know all sides of the business. From film, to commercial, to TV – I saw the various scales of budgets and productions…plus I have navigated working with an agent as well as freelancing on my own.
I felt unprotected, financially unstable, and creatively confused when it came to the necessary skills needed to make an actual living wage in my industry. Meanwhile all around me, “content creation” was exploding and becoming a necessary part of running all kinds and sizes of businesses. I wanted more access, less barriers, and better working conditions.
As the daughter of a small business owner, I had acute understanding of where the problem was on their side- and everything that mirrored what I was feeling. In the spirit of my Dad, I wanted to create something better for every business owner like him who has thought: “I can’t do that” or “I cant afford that” or “I dont know what to say on camera”.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my co founder in 2011 while doing my college things. We were young and stayed in touch before reconnecting and falling in love in 2012. Prior to our business we were both working hard at figuring out who we were and honing our natural skill sets…which proved to be symbiotic come 2018 when we started to discuss the various problems in our prospective industries and how we could solve them. Blended Sense was born from my idea for a solution and his ability to put it together into a cohesive business model, that still is evolving and growing today!
