We recently connected with Abigail Rodriguez and have shared our conversation below.
Abigail, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Instead of highlighting a moment I would like to talk about two people. My friends Azucena and Christopher Miller. They were my very first professional shoot, Ceny and I did a milk bath maternity session back in July of 2021. After that, she continued to book with me and support me while watching my business grow. We did 4 other sessions, a newborn, her proposal, her daughter’s 10th birthday, and eventually her wedding ceremony! Ceny and Chris are two people who are the definition of kind. They have stuck with me since the beginning and hopefully, I will have many more sessions with them. They deserve the world but the world doesn’t deserve them. I am glad to be able to have Ceny be so generous and allow me to practice my photography with her and her family. Truly the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My business, Abigail Rodriguez Photography, was made to help capture people’s special moments and turn them into memories that people can look back on. My grandfather and I are a team, I’m the owner as well as the main shooter, and my grandfather is the second shooter. He is the inspiration behind my passion for photography. My business specializes in portraits and events. So far, I’ve captured sweet 16’s, graduation sessions, maternity and newborn sessions, proposals, and so many more! One day I hope to specialize in wedding photography as I have done two ceremonies and fallen in love with the process! All my services have me and my grandfather shooting the sessions, and all my photos are digitally delivered through a site called Pic-Time. I also have many add on’s like outfit changes, and extra locations although some packages come with those. I even deliver USBs of all the photos in case you want to get them printed, so you can get them exactly how you like! If you ever have any questions like what to wear or what a good location is, I’m all for helping. I love helping my clients figure out what they’re wearing or where we are taking photos. I’m super affordable and easy to work with and my main focus is communicating with you enough so I can take gorgeous photos to the best of my ability. I’m proud of the work I have done so far and I’m super determined to grow my photography business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
BE YOU! One of the biggest things people want to see is the real you. What your passionate about, what you like, what the real you entails. My social media presence is mainly on Instagram because of reels. Reels are super short videos that can give people a peak into your life, your business, or even your struggles. I’ve posted relatable videos that everyone can relate to in some way. People appreciate someone who isn’t afraid to let their struggles be known. By posting more of yourself it takes away the image of a strictly business person, and shows they are someone who’s trying to get through life just like everybody else.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I would say word of mouth is super effective when introducing yourself to possible future clients. I haven’t always been super outgoing but for my business, I learned to be. I think word of mouth is a good way for clients to meet you and see your genuine side. Messaging is one of my least favorite things since sometimes there can be a simple misunderstanding or something that’s not communicated properly. Another thing is neither you or the client know anything about the other. This is easy to fix with a video call if you can’t meet in person. The next best thing is having a previous client tell them their experience with you, bonus points if their friends or family recommend you to them!
