We recently connected with Abigail Cisneros and have shared our conversation below.
Abigail, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I started my journey in Performing Arts at the early age of 8. Though I always portrayed different characters from my favorite Movies and Shows in my bedroom, I really only actively pursued Singing and Dance. Music has always ran in my veins, and I’ve had rhythm since the moment I could bop my head side to side. When I was an early teen, my vocal coach signed me up for a Musical Theatre audition in a city nearby. After much convincing, I decided to show up for the experience. Little did I know that I would land the Lead role in the show! That was my first big dive into Acting and the Theatre world, and it was the birth of a new passion I knew would never leave me. After years and years of Theatre and Stage Performance, later came Film and TV, and then came agencies and more projects. Eventually, came Directing. Lots of Co-Directing, Casting, and Coaching others. I would get invited to help cast shows, Commercials, Short Films, and even to be the On Set Dialogue Coach or Co-direct Staged shows. It was during these projects that I felt the most full. Seeing others’ talents and being able to invest and pour into them to help them soar was pure magic. It wasn’t until I hit the wonderful age of young adulthood where you are “supposed” to know what path in life to take (“College”), that I was really hit with my calling in life. I had heard how challenging and difficult it would be to have a job in this industry. No matter what your title is (Actor, Director, Writer, Coach, etc). It would be difficult no matter what and many told me that I shouldn’t even look in that direction. Therefore, I looked for many other fields that I felt maybe I could excel in and enjoy. However, not one gave me the same adrenaline rush and fulfillment as the magic of Acting and the Arts. It was then that I knew, if I didn’t pursue this artistic/creative path, I would forever feel like a part of me was empty and neglected. So, here I am. And I have zero regrets.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the Founder and Director of Nova Arts Acting Studio. At Nova Arts, we offer several different types of Acting training such as Audition Techniques, On Camera Acting, Monologue Training, Commercial Training, Scene Study, Comedic Acting, Channeling Emotions, Active Listening, etc. Training is offered in both a One-on-One Private setting or a Group Class setting. We also offer additional services such as Career Plan Consultations, in which clients can schedule a 1hr session with me to discuss their Artistic goals and create a Next Steps plan. Online Portfolio Set Up sessions are also available in addition to Self Tape sessions for auditions. This is always a big service for clients who are ready to find an Agent or Manager. We also bring in guest artists from the industry such as Directors, Actors, and Casting Directors to host Workshops for our students. These are always great collaborative opportunities for local Actors. There is SO much you can do at Nova Arts Acting Studio and we train ALL levels and ALL ages. No matter where you are in your creative journey or what your goals are, we are here to meet you where you are and take you to where you wanna be. Many of my clients have successfully landed TOP agents from TX, NY, and CA. They have booked professional jobs in TV shows, Movies, and Commercials and are still actively working while training!! I am so proud of them and so excited for the many more success stories I will get to tell.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is being able to play a role in developing the next generation of magic makers, world changers, and leaders. These are the faces and shining stars that my daughter and many others are going to be watching. I believe the industry needs change and better leaders. I find fulfillment in being able to do my part in helping prepare my students to be the strongest creatives artistically, professionally, emotionally, and mentally. I have no control over what they do when they leave my studio, but I find peace in knowing I had my time with them and I taught them what I believe many other studios and coaches fail to.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Well, times have changed and there are definitely more resources now for Actors than there ever was back when I started out. However, one thing I want to highlight is the RIGHT TRAINING! I cannot tell you how many different classes I took with different professionals that I felt were completely unhelpful in the long haul and that cost me almost my entire rent payment at the time. I was truly a struggling artist and looking back, I feel like I was taken advantage of more than once. I didn’t have any family that was active in the industry or that knew how to guide me. I was the only creative one, haha. So, I figured it all out on my own through experience. I just wish I would have had the guidance that I now provide to students and parents. It would have saved me a lot of money, time, and I probably would have booked those projects a lot sooner.
