We were lucky to catch up with Abigail Anderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Abigail, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My first exhibition, Transitionary Voices in Nature, is the biggest risk I’ve taken as an artist and marked the beginning of my professional career in this industry. It started as a challenge to myself to share a few pieces of my soul and display the paintings I’ve created from 2020 to 2022. Eventually, it evolved into a full fledged exhibit at the Blue Star Arts Complex. I’m so grateful for the team of close collaborators that helped to bring it all together in time for opening day; from designing the space, painting placement and music selection for ambiance. The exhibition was an incredible milestone for me, especially at the early stages in my career. It has inspired me to push my art to further boundaries and continue to empathize with and relay life experiences through painting.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Seiden, an artist who resides in San Antonio. My favored forms of expression are acrylic paint on canvas as well as writing poetry. In 2020, I was offered a canvas and some paint to experiment with during a seemingly unending, difficult time in society. I soon discovered that painting was not simply a way to pass the time, but became a from of meditative therapy and is an invaluable necessity for living. Paintings are produced on gallery wrapped, 1-3/4″ canvases and range from 18″x20″ – 48″x60″ in size. I also create privately collected pieces that are made to the desired dimensions and style of the collector’s preference.
Art is my way of personally processing the confusion, stress and anxiety that plagues most of humanity; as well as the love, beauty and excitement that gives us hope. I create and share with the hope that others will feel a sense of comfort and freedom to explore their own truth and life experience.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I create with the hope that humanity can see just how special each of us are as individuals, along with Earth itself, and how strong we are as a community. By tuning into our similarities we can start to empathize, understand and celebrate our differences. Bringing to light a common similarity, emotion, I hope to show that it’s real and important to feel. To deny yourself emotion is to deny yourself a thoroughly experienced life.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having the sheltered upbringing and endured abuses staring at me from my past, I often contemplate feeling small and scared to exist. While creating, I find no boundaries for expression. It’s a limitless opportunity to discover what kind of space I want to take within the universe. This creative liberty allows me that sense of freedom to just exist.
