Hi Abídèmí, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After the birth of my second child, I felt an overwhelming mix of joy and vulnerability. My heart was full, yet my body, which had just endured another incredible journey of pregnancy felt foreign to me. The weight of postpartum changes was compounded by a storm I hadn’t anticipated: domestic violence. In a home that should have been a sanctuary, I faced not only physical threats but also emotional torment, which often manifested as body shaming.
As I navigated the turmoil of my situation, I found myself reflecting on how my body had been scrutinised by those who should have uplifted me. Each comment, each judgment, weighed heavily on my self-esteem. I started to realize how many women, like myself, were battling similar struggles—feeling inadequate and ashamed of their bodies, while also yearning for support and empowerment.
In quiet moments, I dreamed of creating a space where women could feel confident and beautiful, no matter their size or shape. This dream blossomed into the idea for a shapewear brand that would do more than just smooth curves; it would celebrate them. I envisioned pieces that embraced and highlighted the beauty of real bodies, designed not only for aesthetics but also for comfort and resilience.
The legacy of my brand is rooted in my childhood when I saw my mother wear a corset or other types of undergarment under every outfit. I learnt from my mother that a shapewear is a foundation that empowers confidence so that you can shine without limits.
My journey from victim to advocate became the cornerstone of GETWAISTEDWITHBIDDY, transforming my experience into a beacon of hope for others.
Through this venture, I discovered that our scars could become our strength, and every curve could be celebrated. Together, we would redefine beauty and support one another in our journeys toward self-love and resilience.

My name is Abídèmí (AKA Biddy) and I started this brand GETWAISTEDWITHBIDDY from my desire to turn pain into purpose, offering support to those who felt the weight of the world on their shoulders and helping other women reclaim their confidence.
At GETWAISTEDWITHBIDDY, we specialize in high-quality functional and workout shapewear designed to enhance confidence and provide a comfortable, flattering fit for all body types.. As someone who wanted to feel supported without sacrificing comfort or style, I decided to create a line of shapewear that would do just that.
Our products are all about embracing body positivity and making women feel empowered in their own skin. We offer a range of shapewear styles—from waist trainers to tummy control briefs—designed to smooth, lift, and shape without being restrictive. Our mission is simple: to provide solutions that make women feel great, whether they’re wearing shapewear for everyday support or special occasions.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the early days of GETWAISTEDWITHBIDDY, I had a vision to create shapewear that didn’t just shape the body, but also empowered women to feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. But like many entrepreneurs, I quickly realized that turning a dream into a reality was not as simple as imagined.
The first few months were tough. I poured all savings into designing prototypes,Samples and building a website. But when the first batch of shapewear arrived, it wasn’t perfect. The fit was off. Some of the pieces were too tight in the wrong places, and others didn’t hold up to the quality expected. I was devastated—this wasn’t just a setback; it felt like a complete failure.
There were moments of doubt, late nights spent trying to figure out what went wrong, and days when I considered walking away from the business entirely. But my resilience wasn’t something I could easily let go of. I had been through hardships before and knew that success didn’t come without struggle. So instead of giving up, I leaned into my mistakes and started making changes.
I worked closely with manufacturers, testing different materials, tweaking designs, and listening to feedback from early customers. Spent hours learning about sizing, materials and fit, determined to make sure that the next batch of shapewear would be everything I had envisioned. And through this process, I developed a deep understanding of customers’ needs—how important it was not just to look good in shapewear, but to feel comfortable and supported throughout the day.
After months of trial and error, I launched the revamped collection. This time, it was different. Customers raved about the comfort, the fit, and the quality. Word of mouth spread, and GETWAISTEDWITHBIDDY gained a loyal following. My brand is not just about delivering shapewear—we deliver confidence, self-love, and a reminder that embracing who you are is always in style.
Today, GETWAISTEDWITHBIDDY is a thriving brand, but its story of resilience is woven into every piece of shapewear we deliver. It’s a brand built on learning from mistakes, never giving up, and staying true to the vision of making women feel great in their own skin. And I know that no matter what challenges lie ahead, I will continue to stand tall—because resilience is the foundation of my brand.
