We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abianna Roman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abianna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission behind my business is to help people create a healthy lifestyle that they can sustain for the rest of their lives. This is the only way individuals will lose weight and keep it off, as well as improve their long term health and prevent diseases. Unfortunately in the fitness industry, gimmicks and quick fixes sell well and they scam so many people into purchasing the easy way out to solve their weight loss problems. My mission is to show people how to lose weight and keep it off in a sustainable way and that’s not confusing. To help them understand how the body works and what it takes to lose the weight without extremes.
Abianna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a fully certified personal trainer, holistic nutrition coach and National bikini bodybuilding champion. My academic accreditations include an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Toronto and a High Honours Graduate Certificate for Sports and Event Marketing at Seneca College. I am a Canadian Bikini Bodybuilding Champion and have competed in 13 Bikini Bodybuilding competitions across North America from 2014-2017.
I have been training clients for 10 years and have helped hundreds of clients all over North America. During that time, I have refined my fitness strategy to provide the best results through a science based approach to my program. My health and fitness program is all about building sustainable habits when it comes to workouts and nutrition for lifelong results. Gut health, hormonal health, and stress management are also incorporated in my program as these are huge factors that contribute to improving a client’s physique goals and internal health.
My philosophy to fitness is what sets me apart from my competition, and that is showing that fitness isn’t about cutting carbs, hopping onto the next diet trend or burning yourself out in the gym. It’s about creating a realistic routine you can stick to for life! I keep things fun, simple and effective so clients enjoy the process in their fitness journey.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid lockdown played a huge role in the pivot of my business. With the pandemic causing gyms to close down and lockdowns to occur, I was unable to train my one on one personal training clients and it forced me to step outside my comfort zone with taking my online coaching to the next level. During the lockdown, I personally created an entire new website and fitness app to provide a top notch online program as mentioned previously in this interview. With many people losing their jobs yet still wanting to improve on their health and fitness, I created my program to help individuals achieve results in a very cost effective way. My program is only $29.99 plus tax per month for the monthly package or $19.99 per month if you sign up for the annual package. This is less than what most people spend on their weekly coffee orders and it provides all the tools to help individuals burn fat, boost metabolic health, gain strength and never feel deprived when it comes to nutrition. If I didn’t have the lockdown to push towards creating all of the above, I wouldn’t of created my online program and the amazing community called the A Team.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media presence all started when I embarked on my bikini bodybuilding journey. Instagram was born during my generation and I quickly switched my personal Instagram account to a public account to showcase my fitness journey. I grew this account to just over 80,000 followers when all of a sudden my account was hacked one evening when I was out for dinner with my family and then permanently taken down. It was so upsetting because not only did I lose my online community that I built up for many years on this account, but I lost all the content on my page. I tried for months to retrieve it but the help from customer service for Instagram was absolutely terrible. I had to swallow that I wasn’t going to get my account back so I created a new account with the current handle @abiromanfit. I use this handle now on both Instagram and Tiktok and have regrown my online community. Sharing your authentic self and not being afraid to share who you are is what grows your social media presence. Like anything else, consistency is very important to keep your audience engaged and getting to know you more and more. Don’t worry if your posts aren’t perfect and just be unapologetically yourself.
