We were lucky to catch up with Abhishek Tuiwala recently and have shared our conversation below.
Abhishek, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
As an artist and Non Artist’s perspective I believe happiness isn’t defined by conventional standards or the stability of a regular job. Rather, it stems from the fulfillment of expressing oneself creatively, exploring new ideas, and connecting with others through art. While the uncertainty and challenges of the artistic journey can be daunting, they also offer opportunities for growth, self-discovery, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. As artists, we thrive on the freedom to pursue our passions, challenge the status quo, and make a meaningful impact on the world around us. So, while the idea of a regular job may cross our minds from time to time.
Ultimately, the joy of creating and sharing our art outweighs any longing for stability or predictability. We embrace the unique path of an artist, knowing that it allows us to live authentically and fully embrace our creative potential.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In my artistic journey, I delve into the sustaining and transformative power inherent in the everyday. Themes of identity, time, perception, and social constructs form the crux of my exploration. By deconstructing and recontextualizing familiar elements, I aim to challenge preconceptions and ignite fresh perspectives. As a conceptual artist, my objective is to bridge the gap between art and life. I invite viewers to question the status quo, reflect on their beliefs, and confront the complexities of our world. Through layered multimedia works, I metaphorically connect multicultural, generational, and intimate human experiences into cohesive expressions. Each sculpture is a puzzle, a confluence of research, satire, and juxtaposition of figuration with abstraction, yielding enigmatic yet meaningful outcomes.
My exploration extends to the effects of cultural translation and dislocation, demonstrating art’s capacity to transcend cultural and economic boundaries. Employing diverse media, including steel, bronze, marble, and paint, I utilize materials for both aesthetic appeal and as conceptual signifiers. Mass-produced objects carry ambiguous symbolism, revealing varying associations dependent on cultural perspectives.
Navigating betweenness empowers me to engage actively in a global art dialogue, utilizing my creations as a universal language. The overarching theme of hybrid identities emerges prominently, reflecting the intricate dance between two cultural influences. In this space, I find a unique sense of belonging, transcending the labels of Indian or American.
Time is inseparable from the creative process, guiding the transformation of ideas into tangible artworks. From inception to completion, time serves as a crucial ally for reflection and conceptualization. It allows for the maturation of ideas, infusing depth into artistic creations. Each step, from sketches to maquettes, unfolds in the cadence of time, orchestrating the realization of art in its most resonant form.
In this delicate tension between cultures and the cadence of time, my artistic expression captures the nuanced interplay of emotions, reflecting the ongoing journey and process of personal growth.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As an artist or creative individual, the most rewarding aspect is the ability to express oneself authentically and connect with others on a deeper level through art. Creating something meaningful and impactful, whether it’s a painting, sculpture, piece of music, or any other form of artistic expression, brings immense satisfaction and fulfillment. Additionally, witnessing how art can evoke emotions, inspire others, and provoke thought is incredibly rewarding.
The process of exploration, experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of creativity also fosters personal growth and self-discovery. Overall, the opportunity to make a positive impact, both personally and within the broader community, is the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist, my particular goal or mission driving my creative journey is to inspire thought, evoke emotion, and provoke meaningful dialogue through my art. I aim to explore complex themes, challenge societal norms, and encourage viewers to see the world from fresh perspectives.
Additionally, I strive to foster connection and empathy by creating artwork that resonates with diverse audiences and speaks to universal human experiences. Ultimately, my mission is to make an impact on individuals and society as a whole, using my creative voice to contribute to positive change and inspire others to embrace creativity, empathy, and understanding.
