We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abel Sanchez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
Dropped a shirt in the middle of pandemic 2020 which three years later has turned into a legitimate collection and local brand with almost two dozen original shirts, caps, art prints etc that continue to sell out. Very rewarding, humbling to be embraced by your community and beyond. I’ve now shipped drip all across the country even as far as Hawaii. Small victories def add up.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m just a passionate local forever inspired and influenced by the culture, from OG Streetwear legends such as Stüssy and PERVERT to art, graffiti, history etc as far as my vision, my personal philosophy has always been where history and culture collide. The Miami Stadium Collection reflects that with designs that are highly detailed, historically accurate and all original. Proud to hold it down for my city.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being true to your vision, always authentic, and having the community respond with love and support is super rewarding. People see right through the bullshit, they know who is legit and who isn’t, simple.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I trusted the process and stayed true to my vision, always authentic. My page is me. My Streetwear collection is me. Authentic in every way. No biting, no clout chasing, no click baiting, no trends etc which sadly so many fall into that trap. Corny as it sounds, “If you build it they will come” is very real. Consistency is everything, fam.
