Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Abe Robinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Abe thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
I’ve had many of jobs I think something like around 30 of them. One lesson I learned early on is I do not play well with authority, So having a boss was intolerable most of the time specifically the micro manager bosses. So while at any of said jobs I pushed myself to take that boss position as soon as possible. Once either in that position or if I knew I was blocked for some reason from obtaining said position I would get this overwhelming feeling of boredom, regret and even sometimes anger. So I would just move on to the next job.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Abe Robinson I am the owner and Lead creative and Blind 7 we are a commercial photography and Video asset creation company that has been around the industry since 2007. We have produced shoots for a wide Varity of musicians, commercial companies, and are the leading go to for the Haunted house industry. We take a unique approach with our clients. We do everything in our power to never repeat ourselves. even from client to client. every shoot is unique in one way or another.
We are know mostly for the Haunted house industry as we excel in the Horror genre. we take great pride in our ability to blend realism with just the right amount of flash to create a cinematic look to our end product. We want your customers to feel like they are watching a movie trailer not just a boring old commercial.
While we do shoot quite a lot of video we are a photography company at heart Personally Nature and macro are my favorite things to shoot. Professionally I would have to say I love creative table top shoots the most.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with Blind 7 used to be like everyone else as an artist…. To be well known and make money! but as time went on and my hair greyed more and more I eventually realize no matter what “Level” you’re on you will always want to be the next one up. and boy there is always more above ya.
Now My goals are more simple I want Blind 7 to survive after me. Not so I can give it to kids or something like that but more of….in memory I want after Im gone for my employees to be able to keep the ball rolling, but I want to create a legacy before I go that they can be proud to keep going.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Stop being so afraid to take a chance. New creative assets for commercial clients are expensive and always bring along a level of risk. But if more companies were willing to take even just a 1% more risks the commercial word would be gaining access to amazingly talented artist that just don’t fit that corporate world plus it would flood the non corporate art world with much needed funds.
