We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Abby Sarabia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Abby below.
Abby, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. A small midwest city in northwest Ohio. No one has ever made the parallel between creativity and this city. But it’s not that we didn’t have creative individuals. Our creative individuals needed access social, educational, and networking resources to keep creating. The realization of this broke my heart. I was a musician. I am a musician, and this reality hit me all too well.
During 2020, two things happened. 1, I graduated from college. 2, the music industry was being turned upside down as they fell gracefully to algorithms and massive changes. During this time, I noticed a few things. Becoming a successful musician was more accessible than ever before. Artists, given suitable space and resources, could thrive regardless of location.
Thus, I conceptualized the idea of Creator’s Club. A safe digital platform that provides musicians social, educational, and networking opportunities. I wanted to put the power of their development in their own hands. I wanted to become a trusted tool to move their career forward.
My search for the perfect platform began as an e-course. The issue with that is it needed to be more than transactional. For most, after you purchase an e-course, there is nothing other than follow-up emails trying to upsell you. I wanted something better. I wanted to develop a community, an atmosphere where education is not transactional but continuous.
During my search, I found the perfect host network. A platform where I could combine all that I wanted and then some! I took the next four months to develop and brand Creator’s Club, which eventually launched in April 2021.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I began my music career as a DJ, saved up enough money to buy recording equipment, taught myself how to become an audio engineer, opened up a recording studio, became an artist, and then became an intern for music’s leading press company. I had the privilege of being under a fantastic leader, Olivia Shalhoup, and was able to work on projects for Trippie Redd and Quavo. After my internship, I launched my start-up, Creator’s Club. We are a digital platform providing the artist with social, educational, and networking resources. Our mission is to keep creators creating.
I grew up in poverty and in a household plagued by drug addiction. When you come from where I came from, you become resilient. Resilience is one of the main qualities of an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur is not easy. There is a lot of rejection, frustration, and harsh feelings throughout this process. But my vision is to become the trusted tool musicians can count on to help them. This is what keeps me motivated. We’ve done that for 1800+ musicians and are growing every day. This is what I am most proud of.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Social media! I hate to sound like a broken record but having a solid social media presence is the modern-day resume. Consumers decide if they can trust your brand by a 10-second glance at your profile. Treat your social media like your resume. Make it professional and to the point. Add value and be informative. Focus on your niche. Have excellent funnels that provide insight to those who want to know more. Set up automation so you can sit back and collect. Focus on technology!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Start small and invest in their passions. I have over 15 interns that help move Creator’s Club forward. The only way this is possible is because they love the platform and the mission, and I am committed to helping them in any way I can. They are from all over the world, but I always find a way to connect and make them understand they are essential to me. Be an empathetic leader who wants to grow your team members. The slightest investment in them multiplies itself in the work they do.
