We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abby Pfaff a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Abby thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I manage all of my own social media! I am constantly learning how to manage my socials better to reach more people.
Abby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I’m Abby Pfaff and I’m a photographer. I started taking photography seriously in high school, and decided to pursue it in college.
I’ve owned and operated Abby Pfaff Photography by myself since 2014. I was also a full time student until 2019, when I graduated with a BFA in Studio Art from the University of North Texas.
Since graduating, I’ve managed my business while also working as a substitute teacher, yearbook photographer and newborn photographer at Baylor Scott and White Hospital.
I specialize in portraiture, but my main love is graduation portraits! No two graduation photoshoots are the same. I love photographing everyone’s unique personalities, and nothing compares to the excitement of “what’s next”.
I take pride in being able to make people comfortable during photoshoots, resulting in fun, natural images. I want my clients to look back on their portraits and remember how excited and happy they felt!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is making other people happy. I love seeing my clients smile when they see their work for the first time, or when they hang their portraits up in their home. Being able to change a mood with my work is my greatest accomplishment!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A hard lesson that I’m still working to unlearn is to not compare yourself to other artists. Every single artist is different. Each person has a different story. There are different specialties, editing styles, gear, education, etc. and it doesn’t help anyone to compare yourself or your work.
