We recently connected with Abby Meeker and have shared our conversation below.
Abby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Practice and dedication. While genetics is always a plus, the real work comes from understanding how to work my angles and embody different styles. I would spend my free time studying Vogue covers, iconic poses, and fashion campaigns trying to mimic what resonated with me. I always stay inspired by the creatives I work with on a daily basis. Whether its observing how other models pose on set, asking photographers for feedback, or requesting the mood board in advanced, I take in the detail and use it to improve my craft. Looking back, I wish I was as motivated and dedicated as I am now. I think one obstacle that stood in my way, was the mindset of constantly feeling like I always needed more. More clothes, more makeup, more external things that would make me look ‘perfect’ on the outside. Now, I realize that I could’ve worked with what I had, and focused on enhancing my skills rather than chasing external perfection.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a fashion model, and my journey into the industry began when I was scouted at Charleston Fashion Week by my first manager at 17 years old. I moved to New York City after I graduated highschool, where i quickly signed with my first agency and started working. Growing up a dancer, I learned how to work closely with creatives and express myself through movement, which translates great into my modeling work. My role in the industry is to help turn a creatives vision into reality, which is something I find joy in. I am most proud of my resilience. Despite the competitive nature of the fashion world, I stay focused on my goals. Although there have been moments where I question my place, I always find pushing through and staying positive and true to myself is the key to success. I strive to be a role model for the generations to come, because it is easy to get lost in the busy world of fashion. I believe that being a good model is not just how you look on camera, It is about how we use or platforms to inspire and help others. I think its really important to bring a fun, positive, and supportive vibe to work. We tend to forget how lucky we are to be able to work in cool creative spaces, why not have fun and all work together to bring the vision to life!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In todays world, it is important for society to prioritize and support real creatives over AI. While AI is a great convenient tool for modernization, it will never compare to true creativity, which is rooted in human experience, emotion and passion, which is something AI cannot replace!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part is looking back at your work and feeling truly proud of yourself- knowing how much you’ve grown and how far you’ve come to get to this point. Feeling so much gratitude for everything, no matter how hard the journey was.
