We recently connected with Abby Malloy and have shared our conversation below.
Abby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Abby Malloy and I am a singer/songwriter and Christian artist based out of LA! I am a professional songwriter in my day-to-day life, and spend the rest of my work hours on music specifically for myself as an artist. I’ve been writing music for 16 years (since I was 9), professionally as an artist for 7 years (since I was 18), and as my profession for about 9 months. I want to make everyone feel seen and heard when they hear my songs, and to create a community where everyone is welcome. I was a two-year member of the Maverick City Gospel Choir and have sung with many well-known artists such as Crowder, Brandon Lake, Matthew West, Elevation Worship, and many others. I have released two full-length albums as well as a few singles and EPs, including a Christmas EP called “Home For Christmas Eve” in December 2021 that was even featured on a billboard in Times Square in New York City! I write new songs almost every day, and produce one or more new song “templates” almost every week. I absolutely love what I get to do, which is writing songs for people as gifts! A client will provide me with as much information about their relationship (whether romantic, familial, platonic, etc.), I use an existing song template (just instruments, no vocals) that I’ve made, or create a new one, then write brand new words to capture your relationship as beautifully as I possibly can.
One song that I’m most proud of is called “Gold” that I was actually unsure of writing. Some of the details weren’t as clear as I was used to, and some of the language was just very different than what I was used to as well, but as I created the music template for it and started writing the words, it ended up being one of the BEST templates I’ve ever made, and one of my favorite songs I’ve written with the company I work for.
It’s so fun to get to create something new every single day – it’s exciting, fun, and challenging. It has made my personal songwriting so much better, which makes sense when I look at how much time I now spend writing. Practice makes progress!
