We were lucky to catch up with Abby Gaudette recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Art has always been my natural path, but I wanted to explore other passions, so I attended a liberal arts college to try different fields. Ultimately, art was undeniable, and I transferred to art school to pursue graphic design, blending my creative and logical sides.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Originally from Boston and a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art in Graphic Design, I’ve been living in NYC and freelancing as a Graphic Designer since 2001. For seventeen years, I was the Graphic Designer for a classical music festival and musician. More recently, I’ve begun an exciting chapter as an artist-in-residence at The Recycle Challenge in New Orleans, where I create art for parades and events, repurposing and upcycling 80%-90% of materials. Alongside my artistic work, I also serve as a full-time Instructional Designer, creating eLearning training videos for a company’s platform. I’m passionate about blending creativity with purpose, whether it’s through sustainable art or developing educational content. Bringing together design and educational strategies while making a positive impact on both the environment and the communities I work with is something I deeply value. My additional pursuits include photography, typography, the fine arts, classical and jazz music, time spent with family and friends, adventure, museums, hot yoga, and immersing myself in the vibrant culture of NYC.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
As an artist, I sometimes struggle with self-doubt, self-worth, and finding inspiration. From the start of my artistic path, I’ve focused on the lessons each project offers, whether it’s a new technique or a fresh perspective. I firmly believe the journey is the destination, and these challenges make success even more rewarding. What non-creatives may not realize is that a project or piece of work becomes a part of you, and it can take a piece of you in the process.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to transform ideas from the mind into something tangible, whether with my hands or on the computer. I also love that each artist’s vision is completely unique to them.
