We recently connected with Abbie Knights and have shared our conversation below.
Abbie, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always been drawn to entertainment! As a kid, I wanted to be a singer and literally spent hours studying performance tapes (back in the VHS days) by some of my favorite singers/groups at the time, I was about 7 or 8 years old. I think I just really aged myself with the VHS reference, today’s millennials will never understand the struggle of having to tap a tv to get a clear screen, clicking a dial with only five channels, or winding film back into place. Growing into my teenage years, I had the opportunity to attend MTV show tapings. At that age, I wanted to see what it was really like behind the scenes to see if it was still the career path I wanted to pursue, so I’d leave middle school, walk two miles and sit for hours in the sun. I did this for weeks, at one point my body was covered in blisters. I had some unforgettable experiences and learned so much! I got into a water fight with Tyrese, met Carson Daly who was the host of Total Request Live (TRL) and an absolute sweetheart on and off camera, such a great guy! As well as Many Moore, KK Holiday, Nick Lachey, Sum41, 3LW, and many others. I fell in love with every aspect of it! 20 years later, I’m still in it and just as in love with entertainment as I was on day one.

Abbie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m originally from Spain and am a bi-lingual host/radio personality for my show “The Abbie Knights Show”, and a celebrity photographer/contributor for The Hype Magazine. I started my journey 20 years ago, pursuing a hopeful career in music, which eventually led to work in film and television, landing me credits on incredible feature films and tv shows like Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, The Walking Dead, and many others. Considering my love for music and being an artist, radio was a natural transition and immediately became one of my greatest loves! One of my main goals in life is to be able to impact others in a positive way throughout my journey, thanks to the radio I get to spend every weekend uplifting others and making them smile. Over 1,000,000 listeners later, this journey has been filled with endless obstacles, tears, laughter, and countless rejections but has been worth every single moment, because it’s brought us to where we are today. I wake up every day feeling beyond blessed, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
If I could go back in time and give my younger self some advice coming into the entertainment industry, it would be the power of knowledge. It seems like something that would be simple, common sense. Too often, creatives, aspiring entrepreneurs, and dreamers dive into the vision head first, without understanding the critical value of the knowledge required to succeed in such a competitive industry. As they say, knowledge is power.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The most important lesson I’ve learned over the years is the importance of being able to trust your team and those closest to you, not everyone has your best interest at heart. Unfortunately, I had to learn that the hard way. There’s no greater teacher than experience. Placing unconditional trust in the wrong people, cost me the loss of $30,000, 5 lost record deals, and countless other opportunities. Had I acquired the proper knowledge required to operate at a high level in this industry, I would’ve been able to make smarter choices about who I chose to trust and the decisions that were made. To anyone aspiring to succeed in entertainment, the best advice I can give you is to educate yourself, be mindful of who you trust, and always trust your own instincts.
